Hey guys,
I'm having a bit of a problem with my stock SS hood. I went to bolt the thing back on the car, when the little nut deal that is inside the hood loosened and fell inside the hood. So now I have a hole with no threads where it bolts to the hood hinge. I'm not sure if this is clear or not...

I tried to fish out the nut thing, and I couldn't find it. Any ideas on how to remedy this? Is there a clip-nut I could use?

Matt, can you shift the hood forwards and backwards (off of the car) and hear it rattle up and down that channel? I hate to say it but you could 'open' a small hole in that channel and let it fall out. Then patch the hole. That way it won't rattle around in there forever.

Even if you could get it out, I can't see how it could be re-attached. Someone has to have replaced these with SOMETHING at one time or another.
Folks?

It used to rattle around when I would tilt the hood and such, but I think it got lodged somewhere. Doesn't move around anymore. I attached a magnet to a length of vacuum hose to see if I could get it, and I never found it.

I would think this would have happend to somebody at some point...

I'm thinking about welding a nut flush with the hole, then grind it flat. BUUUTT, I don't have a welder. No fun.

You can replace the nut with a rivnut. Most Bodyshops have this tool that installes a threaded insert into the lower panel. It works just like a pop rivet but it has threads.
