WHAT A DUMB**SS !!!!! I was turning the distributor the wrong way to get more advance. I was taking advance out and that's why it was popping back.
I reset the timing to 12 and then advanced it THE RIGHT WAY this time and it fired off and is broken in and sounds nasty!!!!!!
Thanks for all your help on this, turns out it was just the idiot setting the timing the wrong way.
