View Full Version : Dart Pro 1 Platinum
GreyShadows Oct 15th, 07, 09:13 AM I'm looking at a 383 engine built in NC by T and L engine it is equipped with these heads and I was just hoping for my friends here at Camaros.net to share some information on these newer heads made by Dart.
Thanks in advance... I can always count on you guys for great unbias advice!!

lukeciffer Oct 15th, 07, 08:01 PM i read an article in PHR mag. that said the 215cc heads were a really good head for a 383. i think they are similar to the original pro 1's but that they have small changes that lets them flow even more cfm.
wiskeesour Oct 15th, 07, 09:47 PM I thought the platinums had better volumetric flow #'s in the upper band....Small article I read a few days ago lookin for heads for my project 383..now that Im thinkin, it was a military website that gives discounts to military car guys...not much discount tho. lol
Vegas69 Oct 15th, 07, 11:45 PM FYI T&L engines was miserable to deal with on my recent purchase. How's 3 months late delivering my engine, scratched up my fabricated valve covers, didn't send the flywheel I paid for, and sent a ford starter. 2 months later still no credit for the starter I returned and had to buy a flywheel because they didn't answer the phone for a month. They still owe me money and they deserve the bad reference. They have had plenty of time to make things right with me.
GreyShadows Oct 16th, 07, 05:34 AM I'm sorry to hear about your problems with T and L .. im not really in a time crunch i won't be installing the engine until spring.. so i have some time and i was planning on picking the engine up so i wont have to worry about shipping damages.. that said im now completely set on having them build it yet .. im still in looking into all my options.. i wasnt completely set on a 383 ... but i figure if i can get an internally balanced 383 i might not have too many problems with the change over from the 350.

Well you know what you are getting yourself into if you decide you want to take your chances you better order your engine now if you want it by spring and thats no joke. The valve covers were not scratched in shipping.
Strick Oct 25th, 07, 12:05 PM Vegas - my experience with T & L has been nothing but positive, except the length of time to build and deliver my motor (6-8 weeks -promised vs. 12-actual).
I ordered a MSD dist., flexplate, and custom AED carb which was all perfect. Did you send them the valve covers that they scratched or did you purchase them from T & L?
The big question I have is; how do you like the motor? Mine is unlike any motor I have ever built or owned.
GreyShadows Oct 25th, 07, 01:07 PM Did T&L build your 408 that is in your conv.?

4" stroke 4.030 bore(which comes out to 406 not 408-hmmm?)-the block is a 350 4-bolt (1987-1994), internal balance, I would say yes to the clutch, but I run an auto. Without the carb spacer I was forced to use do to my fuel line routing issues (all about appearance), my dyno was 491 hp(5400rpm), 510 tq(4400rpm). However Lloyd's (the L of T & L) son said spacer plates they do not use normally with street applications. On the dyno however he has seen hp increases every time, low was +5, high was +18. The motor I bought was the 470hp/510 tq motor, so I have a LOT more hp than advertised.
I doubt any track would allow me to run the 1/4 with this engine in a vert with no cage. I may take a stab at autocross with it someday though. I completely rebuilt the suspension as well.
So, my car is a street car/cruiser. I just don't like getting beat signal to signal :D
PM me with anymore questions
To stay on topic: the heads are Dart Pro 1 - 215cc intake volume chamber-68cc.
