Hey all... still sanding and stripping my life away here. Have a couple ?? for the body gurus...

I already know that I'm going to paint the entire engine compartment (firewall, inner fenders, wheel houses, rad. support, etc.) the same color as the body. Whatever color that happens to be. Most likely a very dark color.
Everyone seems to go with black, which is perfectly fine for the 'factory' look. Has anyone ever done an engine bay in color? And what process did you follow? The same as the body such as etch, prime, paint a few coats, clear a few coats? I was going to do the POR-15 thing but it doesn't look good enough for an engine bay.

Thanks all!

Joe, you are right, just treat it like the top of the fender and that is the quality you will get. The hard part is these parts were not made with the same quality in mind as the outside parts. So, to get them to that quality a little extra work is needed. The inner fenders for instance have that strange wrinkly look in them. If you want to get them better spray them with a polyester primer (very high fill, like spraying "bondo") and sand them so the wrinkles are filled.

Yes, there has been gizzilions of cars done with the whole engine compartment painted like the outside. If you do it well it looks great, if you don't it looks like you, well....painted over wrinkly rough metal and it looks like poop.

Poop? LOL!!!

My buddies '61 Impala is painted body color, even the fan shroud. It's too sweet. Now I just have to decide on an engine color. If I can get the same color as the body for the engine, then it'll ALL be the same.
Thanks Martin
