I was taking off my rear spoiler on my 68 and there was an adhesive glue sealing it to the trunk lid along with the necessary screws. my question is, when i put it back on is it necessary to have this adhesive? or will just the screws hold it in place?

Ya, you should put something there to seal it. You can use 3M strip caulk or a silicone sealer will work. Its not to help hold it in place, its just there to prevent leaks into the trunk area.
