Teri,

You came to the right place--we have some major experts here that can walk you through the Z-10.

What are you planning to ask for your car?

Can you provide more information on your car (history, options) and pictures for the group?

yes the z-10 was bought at friendly chevrolet in dallas texas in 1969 by my husband. the cowl tag is 1234 nor 313820 tr 712 50/50 04c z-10/ the motor was replaced with a 400 out of a 73 monte carlo and it has a 3 speed saganaw transmission other wise everything else is the original. i posted picture of it on camaropacecars.com and i don't know how to post the photos they posted them for me. the car still runs great and can be driven on the streets. it is reg as a classic car with the state. the vin is 124379n634074. we are asking 45,000 for the car which i know is less but because of the motor. i am hoping to sell to a camaro love as my husband loves the car. it is like part of our family. smile. I could e-mail you the pictures. thanks teri.

Teri -

Welcome to Team Camaro! Too bad you're here looking for info to help sell a familiy member :):)

There's quite a bit of discussion in past threads here on the Z10s. If you search "Z-10" and also "Z10", you'll find a lot of reading.

Teri. sorry to hear of the reason for selling your Camaro.

If we can help, just send the photos and information to members@camaros.net and we will put up a free photo classified ad for you. This site receives a lot of traffic to the classifieds and perhaps we can save you the auction commission.

You've got a one owner, all original (ex paint and wheels from your pictures), Z10. I don't think its necessary to come down any lower than 40K absolutely rock bottom, unless you need the cash in the next couple of days or weeks). Do you or your husband still have any of the original paperwork, things like the window sticker, owners manual with the warranty protecto plate all add value to the car. 45K isn't out of line. Fall is a tough time to sell an older car, as people have to find a place to store them for the winter, the market will be better in the spring(assuming gas isn't 5 bucks a gallon by then).

our son replaced the engine for his dad to what he told his dad was a better one which now we know not to be true. there is no rust on the car. there was a little surface rust that was taken care of when we repainted. the headliner was order from the camaro part and replaced. we could not find someone to re-sew the other one. teri

Mark , Did you miss that it had a NOM motor and a saginaw three speed ? I think 40K would be a lot for that car.

I did find some info on the z-10
Q: What are Pace Car Camaros? A: In both 1967 and 1969 the Camaro was chosen as the Pace Car for the famous Indy 500 car race. Two Camaros were special-built to serve as the actual Pace Car for the race (the second was a back-up), and a number of look-alike Pace Cars, termed festival cars, served for use by dignitaries at the track. Along with the two literal Pace Cars and the festival cars Chevy offered Pace Car replicas to dealers for sale to the public. Pace Cars, festival cars, and replicas were always SS/RS Convertible Camaros, with either 350ci or 396ci engines. In '67, the color scheme was a white Camaro with blue 'bumble bee' stripe (around the nose), blue deluxe interior, and a white convertible top. In '69, the pace car was white, with Hugger Orange Z-28-style stripes, cowl-induction hood, special Hugger Orange interior, and a white convertible top.
The 1969 Pace Car replica was denoted by a Z11 code on the cowl trim tag. Shortly after the Z11 was produced there was also a special run of '69 Camaros called the Z10, which is believed to be a regional promotional item for certain southwestern and mid-western states. The Z10 was similarly equipped to '69 Z11 Pace Car replica, but was a hardtop instead of convertible. There were no production records retained but it is commonly believed that somewhere between 200 and 300 of the Z10 cars were built at the Norwood plant between 3rd week of April (04C) and 1st week of May (05A), possibly longer. Some of the cars have a 04L date code (which has also been seen on other cars of this period - believed to be a factory stamping/die error). All known Z10 cars have a Z10 code on the cowl tag. A little more flexibility in ordering options has been observed in Z10s, as other interior colors besides the orange houndstooth could be ordered.

The two 1969 pace cars (#1 and #2) had L78 396ci (375 HP) engines. They started out with L89 aluminum-heads, but were changed to the baseline cast iron heads due to durability concerns. The engines were handbuilt and blueprinted by engineering (though within factory specifications) and critical drivetrain and suspension parts were penetrant inspected for cracks. A heavy-duty service 4-wheel disc brake axle (not the same as the JL8 option) with a 3.31 ratio was added along with 15x7-inch rally wheels sporting Goodyear Wide Tread GT tires. Other special requirements included balancing the driveshaft and inclusion of a heavy-duty battery and a 63-amp alternator. teri

teri that is pretty much common info. from www.camaros.org who have documented most of that information.
The Z10 is not a 'hardtop' pace car but a special car built for dealers as noted in that information. Over the years folklore has termed the Z10 as a pace car related vehicle but it was not. It had some similarities but could be ordered with many different options and there wasnt a 'standard' Z10 that dealers had to take. They could order different engines, interiors and options which they could not do with the pace cars per se. The Z10 is a unique car and estimates now place them at closer to 800 made as more information has come into CRG (camaros research group).
Id love to own one but then I like all camaros. :)
