I have a 350 turbo and 4.11 gear and it revs to hight on interstate. I was thinking the 700R4 will help but I want it to hold up

Hey Mean Gene - that's not a bad idea to free up some RPMs on the hiway with your 411s. I ran a 700R with the 373s and it did great for about 5 years. A stock one will definitely not last long with 550hp but check out BowTie Overdrives. (I believe they are a sponsor and have a link here somewhere) I almost bought a 700R tranny from them and ended up going to a TKO 600 instead. However, I did a lot of research on the 700s and thought they had some good people working there that I spoke to and offered some "beefy" 700Rs that were up to the 550hp challenge for a good price.

The TKO-600 is a 5 speed overdrive manual trans rated to 600 lbs/ft torque.

If you'd rather stay automatic, a TH2004R would be a better choice for that much power. It too will have to be built to handle it, but there are more hard parts available for the 200 than there are for the 700. It has better gear spreads, and a 2.75 ish 1st gear compared to 3.00ish 1st gear on the 700R4, which would be a bit too short with 4.10's. Also, the 200 is the same length as the T350 so your driveshaft could be re-used as is.

Hey Gene,

If you interested, I have a buddy of mine who I have been knowing for years.. Tranny's is all he does and he knows them in and out. Not trying to sell him to ya, but if you would like to get some advice he can certainly help ya out. Good, honest guy who takes pride in his work. Let me know.

Bowtie overdrives, out of cali. 550 hp/tq is probably right at the limit.

4L60- not E basically a 700R, a few differences in the valve body i believe.
i spent $2200 on the tranny. shipped to me from cali
$750 on the 3000 stall yank converter

I gained 9 mph in the quarter mile. LT1 355 cid motor, 315 hp NA, 450 hp, 500+ tq- NOS at the wheels--- 3 seasons long.. pounds and pounds of nitrous.

11.5 et streets 11.37 at 121 spinning out of the hole

O.k. the TKO can be ordered with a .64 OD which I'd recommend going with for the 4.11s. This tranny will lower your RPM more on the hiway than the 200R or 700R.

If I recall the complete kit for the TKO (incl. bellhousing, clutch drveshaft, pedals, crossmember& basically everything) was around $3,800.

You need to check out some auto OD tranny prices but once you factor driveshaft, good torque converter and a hefty-built tranny at that you'll probably come close to $3k.

Both will be nice but boy wouldnt that 5spd. be a blast to drive. I'm glad I spent the extra $ on it - pure driving pleasure - no complaints. (no - I'm not a salesmen either)

Have 79 Camaro with 411 and 350 turbo. Two days ago I ordered the ZZ4 350 Turnkey from jegs.com. I need to put a new tranny in as well and I was thinking the 700 was good but after reading your post I realize the 200 will save me some money and some work. I believe the 200 will keep the rpm lower on hiway is that fact? Just a note our Canadian GM Dealers are charging us Canadians way too much. I can hardly beleive I saved almost $2000.00 bucks buying from Jegs.

As far as transmission go, the auto will be the best application if this is a track car.

The 5 speed will be alot more fun on the street, I know i have one.

550 hp, talk about tire fire, get the stick.

Each transmission has its own advantages and disadvantages.

good luck, either way. 500 hp is way fun.

you need tire diameter to figure that out. 2491 rpm with a 26" tall tire.
