I was wondering if anyone else has the same problem that I do and if there is a solution. Whenever I fill up my 69 Camaro with gas, it leaks gas around the gas cap when I get on it or park on an incline. I have replaced the gas cap and it still leaks. Is there a special gas cap out there that prevents this? Is there any way to prevent the leak other than to not fill the car up?

Could your gas tank filler neck be wore & not letting the Gas cap seal off real good? Have you checked your gas tank vent? either of these will cause your promblem. I have a 67 that was doing the same thing & it was a wore filer neck.

The 69 is welded at the neck/tanl junction. If you still have a leak with a new cap ( I assume a quality one, then the seal isn't good. This is probably due to wear on the lip inside the tank neck. Try either bending the tabs on the cap for a tighter fit or adding another gasket to the cap ( glue it on ).

Or don't fill it completely. That's what I do. I know it's the filler neck to tank that's leaking but I have other things to worry about at the moment. Also look for a bent tab where the gas cap would sit. Some idiots bent it a little so air can get in so there's no vaporlock, but what htat causes is your fuel to leak out of the gas cap when you take off or brake. I've seen it on other camaros/

Where is the gas tank vent? It is leaking around the cap. A 69 has a little different gas cap arrangement than a 67 or 68. It has the cap behind the license plate which isn't much higher than the fuel level. I'll try the extra gasket tomorrow. When I turn the gas cap to tighten it, it feels like it is making a good seal, but apparently it isn't.
