It's time to drill the new hole for the new cable. With the motor still in the car it looks like there's just too much in the way. If I decide to use the old hole that's just next to the fuse box (This car was originally a Th350) what length cable would I need to get to the right side of the tailshaft on this new Autogear M22W?

Has anyone here done a similar conversion? I was using a '69 inch cable with the 700R4 and it was a little long. It attached on the left rear of the trans.

Oh, I wrestled the Z-bar in this morning. I don't want to have to do that again.

Help on cable length would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

The correct length cable, from the passenger side of the tranny to the firewall, below the fuse box, is 63 inches.

There was never a production speedo cable for a Muncie that went through the 3-speed or automatic hole near the fuse block; the Muncie speedo cable went through the firewall just inboard of the wiper motor, then down the passenger side of the tunnel wall.

It would take a LONG cable with lots of bends to get from the hole near the fuse block to the speedo connection on the passenger side of a Muncie, and GM never made one like that.

:beers:

I know that. I have seen cables listed as long as 80 inches for a '69 Camaro in the past.
I can't seem to find that source right now though. Steve's Camaro know a guys who makes cables to any length. I may have to go that route.

I pulled the distributor and added the correct hole for the cable. I got a new 61 inch cable after doing some measuring. Now with all hookup and running the speedo flickers real bad at all speeds. I know its not kinked. I pulled the core out of the cable housing and soaked it in lithium white grease before installing in the car.

I had this same problem last spring when I put all the stock gauges(and housing) back in the dash. The speedo at that time stopped flickering after about 100 miles.

Is this normal?
