View Full Version : Edelbrock EFI
Dave Brinson Oct 25th, 07, 08:24 AM Just curious has anyone here installed The Edelbrock EFI on there first gen Camaro?
I have one installed on a fresh rebuild 302 and was curious if anyone has any comments about it?
camcojb Oct 25th, 07, 09:21 AM they seem to work okay on mild to moderate small blocks. Can't really handle forced induction, and are pretty limited in the tuning parameters as compared to OEM and other aftermarket systems like FAST, Holley, Accel, etc.
But once properly tuned they seem to do just fine. Not my cup of tea due to the tuning limitations and the fact that nearly everything I build anymore has a blower or turbos on it............... :D

sc68z28 Oct 25th, 07, 10:48 AM I ran one on mine for a while, (NA 355ci) worked very well, no probs at all.
As my deal grew to a 383 with a blower, I wanted greater tuning control with a wide band. So I installed the ProFlow on a friends 1st gen, he loves it.
Like Jody said, on a basic NA motor they are fine and will work well. Very easy to set up, then really never needed any changes.
For a short while I used the ProFlow with the blower (14.6# Boost) needed 72 lb injectors and a boost refference fuel regulator. The fuel perimeters were maxed at each end of the scale, it did work, made over 700 RWHP that way. But it did not sense boost, adding percentages of fuel based just on WOT and RPM is not a safe way to run an engine.

JimM Oct 26th, 07, 02:32 PM From what I understand, previous Edelbrock EFI's were tuned by telling Edelbrock about your motor, and they'd burn you a prom.
I've read they have a new system out that is user tunable via laptop.
Dave, which did you use?
Any feedback for us?
BonzoHansen Oct 26th, 07, 10:08 PM It appears to have decent hardware. Could you later adapt a different ECM (FAST, etc.) later if your needs change?
Dave Brinson Nov 8th, 07, 08:20 PM I havent fired the engine yet so I dont know. I live in Denver CO and the air is pretty thin up here, so I figured I would try the EFI from Edlebrock. Im more for drivabilty than anything. I have installed a T56 in the car as well. Should not be long and I will fire the car. After that I will leave some feed back.
zdld17 Nov 14th, 07, 12:58 PM I installed one of these 3500 Proflow models on my trifive with a ZZ1 GM crate motor. When I went to it, I had to get my Eprom chip burned for the intake duration on a hotter cam. Over all its pretty much read the fuel maps issue. I gained lots of tweaking from the main engineer Terry Abercrombie . He directly helped me with many issues that were not listed in the troubleshooting manual. Once fuel , timing and vacumn windows were set, the motor pretty much gave you no problem. I got about 23 mpg on hiway with this car with a 3:73 gear behind a 700r4. Car sold to some lucky guy in Calif, I still have the orginal eprom chip.
Installation was a no brainer, pretty direct. The kit includes everything you need. You do have to use the Eddy dist module in your dist. Good system for the money.
Forgot to mention that this system does not require a laptop and you can adjust on the fly down the road.
Dave Brinson Oct 22nd, 08, 09:02 PM So I finally fired the engine not a problem one. Broke in the cam ready to take it to the upholstery shop for the interior. BTW I used the valve lash set up that CRG recommends for a 30/30 cam did it bone cold and works perfect. No clatter no adjustment while the engine is running. So I wait for the 12,000 miles and do it again…so that should be about 5 years from now.
