hi guys can anyone tell me which gears in a muncie 4 speed are different (or you would need to change to convert a close ratio trans to a wide ratio??.i understand that the input shaft (4th) gear tooth count is different.example 26 teeth on close ratio. and 24 teeth on wide ratio.and the cluster gear count is different 17 19 22 27 close. 17 19 22 29 wide ratio.but first gear itself seems to be the same 36 tooth count on both ratios? is that correct.so would you just use the matching input & cluster?? sorry for long post hope someone can help me out ty ernie.p/s i've searched many sites but came up short.

Ernie, You are correct, the tooth count of 1st gear, 2nd gear, and 3rd gear of and M-20, M-21 and M-22 are the same...
The ratio change is done by changing the input and big end of the cluster gear...
So to convert and M-20 to and M-21 (or the other way around) you change the cluster an input gears (you can't mix early7/8" clusters with later1" cluster gears)... Hope this helps... Crash
