Noticed my 350/295hp pg shifts practically as soon as I leave the light, somewhere around 5-10 mph. Hardly matters if I'm just putting or standing on it either. If I shift manually (column) no problem, snaps right in until I put in "D". The drive setting is what I'm referring to.
To me this seems too early, but no bog, or stutter or any issues that I can tell. Is this right?
Any way to adjust shift points --like getting a shift kit or messing with the valvebody?
My service manual is misplaced....(dangit!)
Also, how does it kickdown? I don't have any cable anywhere like I had on my TH350 years ago, just a vacuum hookup plumbed into the spot on the intake. It will not kickdown. What am I missing?

There is a linkage that bolts to the rear of the engine and 2 rods, 1 to trans and 1 to carb. I think I have an extra linkage, but no rods. Here are some pics.

John, I found the spare linkage, greasy but good. Send me a PM if you want to talk.

The extra linkage is for kickdown only. Normal shifting is controlled by the vacuum modulator. Pull the hose at the intake and check to see if the diaphram is good.

Also, with rear wheels off the ground and trans in neutral, you should be able to rotate the driveshaft by hand and hear from within the tailhousing, the governor weights moving, "clink," "clink."

The kick down linkage also plays a part in upshifts by "holding off" the upshift. This is based on throttle position as part of the "throttle valve system". Read about it here http://www.tocmp.com/manuals/trans/TTransChev1971/index.html on pages 11 through 13. This is a good online manual to have when working with Automatic transmissions. I printed a copy and have it in my home library. Enjoy!

Thanks.
Let me do some digging and see exactly what I'm missing, looks like a lot of it.
I'll check the dia. by unhooking the vac line to see if I get a difference......
