I'm finally going to put on my fiberglass stinger hood. It's the natural white right now, and I don't want to drive around with white hood on a blue car. I need to paint it, but I am unsure of the procedure and what I should use. I'm thinking of wetsanding with very fine grit sandpaper, then applying some sort of sealant, because I have heard primer is porous. Then on top of the sealant I will use black primer. Does this sound right? Anyone know of a good sealer for fiberglass?

Thanks,
Ryan

Just sand it and prime it with a urethane primer. No need to seal at all, even if you had a concern about the primer being porous, the hood isn't going to rust. http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

Don't use a sandpaper that is too fine. 240 grit on a D/A will be perfect. If you don't have a D/A (orbital sander) use 320 wet and do a good job when you sand it.
You might want to do yourself a favor and block the fiberglass before you prime it. Ripples in the gel coat won't show up until a good, shiny finish is applied. After the primer is applied, block that too.

Before you do any sanding, use PPG's DX 330 wax and grease remover or something similar. Fiberglass parts tend to have mold release agents and will cause the primer to peel off.
