Ok so my car used to be a 4 spd judging by the giant cut out that someone did in the tunnel area but then now its patched with sheet metal and had a th400 in it when I bought it. My question is how do I make it back to the original 4 spd?

I can buy the kit from classic for the pedals and linkages but is there anything else? Also what would be the "factory correct" tranny for a 68 396 SS?

And lastly how hard are the original non hydraulic clutches to drive?

Thanks for the help guys.

besides the linkage you need flywheel clutch bell housing.tranny a muncie or saginaw.a driveshaft change yolk and lenght of shaft different. what rear you running? doing all that maybe a 5 or 6 spd in mind for driving long distances,or do you want technically correct.if the car isnt numbers correct car do what you want and enjoy.it is your car not someone elses.

There is a linkage kit for ~$100 that includes the bellcrank, pushrods, etc, and the pedals run about $90, plus the drivetrain.

Manual engaged pressure plates are not hard at all. The more of a competition plate you get though, the harder it will be to engage.
If a manual is what tyou really want, I say go for it.

For me, it is what I have to have.
