Hi, im putting a LS1 in my 67 my question is should I look for the combo with the 4L80 tranny that goes with it or should I use the 700R4 or 200R4. I heard GM has a new 6 speed 6L80 tranny out now but cost to buy and the headach to make it work may not be worth it. I dont know much about the newer trannys So I was thinkin to mate the Ls1 to the 700R and hopefully will be pleased with the newer overdrive tranny? Im not sure about the strength or shifter options with the newer 4L80 tranny?? Are they computer controlled? Any suggestions??

4L80E AND 4L60/65/70E are computer controlled ('E').
I might think at this time the 6 speed auto would be expensive and hard to set up. Where the LS1 ecm can handle the 4L60E and 4L80E (with proper tuning/harnesses) . The 80 is the stronger unit of the two, so if it is making any HP that is the better ticket. Jakeshoe has convinced me of that for mine.
I wouldn't bother with the non copmputer ones with that motor, I think (700, 200, etc). I see zero advantage to that, except maybe race application with a TH400.
Serch the transmission section over at ls1tech.com
