I have been having electrical issues with my 69 small block Camaro no Air. Because of previous owners wiring hack job, I have recently replaced the head lamp harness with a new one and replaced the 37amp alternator with a new (rebuilt) 63 amp one that a friend gave me that was never needed for his Buick GS 455 Stage One with Air. The radio now stops working when I accelerate although the light stays on and if I turn on the head lights or turning singles, it works again. Is the 63 amp alternator too much, or do I have a bad voltage regulator? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!! Mike

Sounds like you may have a ground problem check your ground wires

Sixty-three amps is no harm.

Does the radio go dead or does it sound like the signal disappears? An FM signal can be swamped by noise sources - I wonder if your alternator is putting out enough noise to swamp out the radio signal. If that theory is correct, listening to an AM station should tell the tale. AM will reproduce the noise audibly. If AM is going dead also, then I'd lean towards grounding issues. If AM is noisey then you probably need to install a noise filter in-line with the radio power lead, put a filter cap on the alternator, and or examine your ground straps.
