My understanding is that the SS option package trumped the RS option for badges. So if it was an RS it would have the RS badge. If it was an SS RS is would have the SS badges. I am not sure about your part #.

That's the casting number for a grille emblem for a 71-72 Camaro. The Part Number is 3981921.

Front 6263015 ??

Rear 8701110 ??

Gary, the Grill Emblem for the SS (with the RS Grill) is 3958640. The rear Tailpan SS is 8701110. The Grill Emblem for the SS (with the Standard Grill) is 3958638, with the rear Tailpan being the same as above.

Good Luck finding an NOS RS/SS grille emblem. I found one in 10 years of searching.

I found and was lucky to win a bid on Ebay about 3 years ago for an NOS front grill emblem for an SS. I was the first bidder & set my limit just over $350 and when the auction ended, if 1 more bid had come in, I would have lost. I have compared it to the used damaged original I have and they match on the back side as far as details go. It came in its original box with the backing plate and 2 nuts. In the 20+ years I have been looking, this is the only NOS one I ever found. I have a very similar story for the pair of NOS actuator shields I have.

You were able to find NOS actuator shields?!!!!!!!
I tried to replace mine in 1974. There wasn't even a picture of them in my dealers parts book, much less a part number. As soon as the fiberglass repros came out I jumped on them. Now they'll last forever thanks to 50 series tires.

I bought 2 sets over the years off ebay (actuator sheilds). Hardly anyone bid against me.

There is a big difference in SS grille emblem than SS grille emblem for RS grille. I have seen many SS grille emblems.

I know now why I managed to get a SS emblem for the standard grille... casting# 3986590 sitting here on my desk! Maybe I will use it for a drawer pull on my toolbox!

I called a Camaro parts dealer up in the NE in the early 90's who said he had a set of NOS actuator shields he would sell me. This was before the repo's came out. It took awhile before they showed up, and he later told me, he came close to backing out of the deal. When he sent them he included some other freebies to make up for the delay. I have seen NOS singles in Hemmings and there was a decent used set on Ebay a few months back that didn't bring too big a price tag. I'd have to review my records to remember who I purchaased from and how much I paid.

To be clear, the NOS SS emblem I bought on Ebay awhile back, was for a RS grill and has the pn listed above.
