View Full Version : 997 point Z/28 with CAUTION FAN sticker
bigdaryl Nov 2nd, 07, 12:17 AM Was flipping through the Muscle Car Review(?) at the store because of the 69 Z/28. The article claimed the car to be judged with a 997 score (out of 1000). I was surprised to see the CAUTION FAN sticker on the shroud. I have read many posts here mocking the shroud sticker as a Ford product, if memory serves.
Anyway, there are some great pics of paint swipes, marks, tags, finishes and the like. I didn't buy it (yet) but there were several things on the car that I had not come across before in my references or this site.
I had not before seen a paper product between the body bushing and floor board. The paint swipe on the rear of the leaf spring was also new to me, etc. The owner claims the items, marks, etc. were present when he bought it and restored it accordingly.
Is this car legit or not?
RamAirDave Nov 2nd, 07, 12:46 AM Its been a while since its been discussed, but I believe there has been paper/labels found on body bushings on survivor cars. Rare occurence. Mightve been on the sYc board.
If it scored 997 and had a caution fan sticker, the rest of the car mustve been pretty much perfect.
Brentmc Nov 2nd, 07, 06:56 AM I bought the issue--it is a good one.
The 997 point Z bothered me too--the article calls it perfect but the "Caution Fan" sticker makes me doubt the whole car...
Hylton Nov 2nd, 07, 08:03 AM In this months MCR?
Brentmc Nov 2nd, 07, 08:05 AM Yes. It is an issue on Camaros. Great issue but that car leaves doubts as to how much they really know Camaros...
BonzoHansen Nov 2nd, 07, 08:16 AM I saw that too. I wish the magazines would educate people on that. The car was beautiful, BTW. Very nice.
PowerWindows Nov 2nd, 07, 01:54 PM I have this issue also. Car looked great. Caution FAN sticker though? Let me put on my suprised disbelief face  ......
Vintage 68 Nov 2nd, 07, 01:57 PM Probably lost three points for the sticker ...
z10kl Nov 2nd, 07, 07:15 PM If it was a world wide Camaro show Half the judges probably had the sticker on their car.
BonzoHansen Nov 2nd, 07, 07:39 PM Is this wrong?

Fred Ficarra Nov 8th, 07, 06:21 PM Where do I send my money?
Hatman Nov 9th, 07, 06:58 AM Yep that sticker sure stands out,but the rest of the car looked good.
68 Ragtop Nov 9th, 07, 10:10 AM I had not before seen a paper product between the body bushing and floor board.
I have an original floor/body bushing car from the desert, and it also has this paper product. I was told the factory taped the bushing in place when mounting the front subframe, and this is remnants of that tape.
So I believe it is correct.
bigdaryl Nov 9th, 07, 10:44 AM Hello James,
They taped the bushing to the floor and then connected the subframe? Interesting stuff.
My Z has original floors and possibly bushings, but no sign of paper.
Thanks guys
William Nov 9th, 07, 11:17 AM I believe the space saver spare is crap also. Ordering info limits it to 14" only.
69 z11 Nov 9th, 07, 04:16 PM Really nice car, even better T shirt!
JohnZ Nov 9th, 07, 06:22 PM Hello James,

Occasionally they taped them to the subframe, not to the floor pan.
Lawrence Shaw Nov 10th, 07, 06:19 AM Occasionally they taped them to the subframe, not to the floor pan.
My original floor pan 36,000 mile car has remnants of tape on top of the bushing against the floor pan.

I will have a closer look next time I am under there.
One thing for sure, I just picked up the latest MCR with the article being discussed, and mine looks nothing like that square paper he has in there. The restorer lost all credability with me when I saw the dreaded Ford sticker on the fan shroud.

Ok, I found the picture of the low mile (3500) very original 1968 SS that had the body bushings taped like my car. The tape is a little unglued, so it is hard to tell. Is this taped to the floor or to the frame?
Does this look original?

JohnZ Dec 14th, 07, 07:31 PM Fisher Body taped over the rear subframe bolt holes in the Trim Shop before the body shell went through the in-line 3-minute water test booth; sometimes the tape got removed, sometimes it didn't. Tape with the sticky side against the floorpan surface came from Fisher Body.
PowerWindows Dec 16th, 07, 03:26 PM Well I'll be! I've disassembled several cars for replacement of the subframe bushings that had that tape/paper in that location and I never had a clue as to what it was.
Just goes to show ya that you learn something new everyday.
