View Full Version : Racin' in Indiana videos
Eric68 Nov 5th, 07, 12:18 PM Thought you guys would enjoy these -- tracks here in Michigan closed 3 weekends ago so I got the itch and went to Indiana. The car is running on gasoline at the moment since the weather is so cold so times were a little off my bests.
On motor (gasoline) I went 10.91's. It zerox'd time slips on motor and if had been able to cut decent lights I would have went a few rounds . . . Oh well.
On nitrous, it spun the first try and I coasted to a 10.70 @ 120. Second nitrous pass it was rich (I think due to low bottle pressure) and it went 10.14 @ 129 mph with a 1.40 sixty foot.
Here is a video of a motor pass. Check out the bumpsteer when the front tires come back down. (if you can go to slow-mo)

Eric68 Nov 6th, 07, 06:09 AM Thanks guys -- I think that was it for the season, starting to get some sleet and snow here in Michigan and Indiana isn't much better.
sc68z28 Nov 6th, 07, 12:12 PM As always, your stuff looks great:thumbsup:.
Sorry to hear about the weather changing, I guess it does that most everywhere. We are still waiting for good air here, the temp was 80 something when I went the other day, DA was 2200+ @ a 400' track.
Usually in Dec/Jan it gets nice around here;)
Looks good Eric.
---Bill.
Eric68 Nov 6th, 07, 01:46 PM Thanks for the kudos and for rubbing it in Bill . . . 80's in California . . .
Well I suppose you guys deserve a break after being "on fire" for a few weeks.
Dougs72Nova Nov 6th, 07, 01:50 PM Hey Eric, fellow Michigan member. Car looks and runs awesome! Wish my car was that fast. Nice job. Doug

Well Eric, I just couldn't help it:cool:.
During the fires it was high 90's and 100* The sky was yellow with smoke, like over cast that smells and ashes raining down for days. The nearest fire was 30 mi from me.
As far as your weather goes, I can actually remember a little of it. Was born in Garden City, Mi. Lived in Dearborn, just outside Detroit till 1960.
Eric68 Nov 6th, 07, 03:14 PM Bill, its a small world -- I grew up in Garden City and my wife is from Dearborn. In fact my Dad worked at Ford WHQ there on Michigan Ave.
I lived in GC from '68 - '86. Garden City was probably a "new" west side suburb back in 1960. My wife grew up on Lehigh street near Telegraph. She was there from '66 to about '88.
What made you move to CA (besides the weather)? Lots of folks from Michigan went south and west during the recession of the early 80's. Its starting to happen again.

Eric. I'm still here in Lower Michigan. Maybe 25 minutes from Grarden city. It would be nice to move south though.
Eric68 Nov 6th, 07, 05:36 PM Sorry Doug, meant Bill -- but where are you at in SE Michigan? Ever get out west to US131 or Stanton?
.gearhead. Nov 6th, 07, 10:10 PM Car looks and runs good. My car runs similar. What gear ratio do you run? I have a plate kit ready to put on but am considering switching from the 4.11's to 3.73's.

Greg O Nov 7th, 07, 10:02 AM Eric, got the split monos on it yet?
Eric68 Nov 7th, 07, 12:12 PM Greg, not yet. The front spring bushing inside diameter in the split monos is 1" diameter and the outside diameter of the pin for my slide-a-links is 3/4". So either I need to get a bushing to make up the difference in size or go to the cal-tracs . . . but after having it hook so well on the S-A-L's I am hesitant to switch anything!
Thanks Jim -- I am running 4.10 gears and crossing the traps at 7300-7500 on the bottle (28" tall tire). RPM is a little high for my tastes, but not a big problem for my motor (it should handle it knock on wood). I mainly bracket race on the motor and I prefer to keep it geared and set up how it is for motor racing -- as long as I can go heads up and spray it once in a while for a 10.0 pass I'm happy. If you intend to spray frequently you may want to go with the 3.73's.
DragRacer Nov 7th, 07, 08:06 PM Eric,
That things is moving!
It seems like you might be driving through the converter on the N2O if you are seeing 7300-7500 RPM with 28" tire, 4.10 gears, @131 MPH.
~18% slippage? Converter or trans?
Eric68 Nov 8th, 07, 10:13 AM Yep, I agree it may be driving through the converter on N2O -- the converter is a custom Coan 8" that flashes to 4950 on motor and the trans is new Coan as well. Not sure exactly what it is flashing to on the bottle, but can tell you there is nothing wrong with the converter or trans, just a converter selection intended for motor. I figured slippage at 12-13% on motor, probably more on the bottle but haven't figured it out yet. (28" tall radial tire, 4.10 gear)
The pass in the video was 7300 rpm through the traps at 129 mph for sure (looked at the tach and my LM 1 backed it up). I may have seen 7500 on a 131 mph pass but am not 100% sure since I could have stayed in it after the finish line and that particular LM 1 log was noisy.

68weekendwarrior Nov 10th, 07, 09:51 AM Eric68,
how much Nitrous are you spraying? Thanks
Eric68 Nov 10th, 07, 01:20 PM Spraying a 150 shot.
.gearhead. Nov 11th, 07, 04:27 PM 7500 rpm? Careful...
Jim
