Just replaced two peices on my 67 convert that make up the chrome header on the top of the windsheild. It was a monster to remove and put a new one on.
One side was a little rusted but the right side is in good shape but needs rechrome if any one is interested
Now my rear view mirror plastic cover is not flush with the chrome like the last one. Any suggestions.
Only casulty was I placed the header over one of the top chrome windsheild clips (and I was not about to take the header off to move the clip in front of it)

What made this job so tough? I need to remove mine this winter and replace.

The non-hardening factory caulk/goo/abominable snowman snot that's underneath, the compound curvature in three planes, the poorly plated tiny headed screws that corrode badly, the somewhat decent yet not 100% correct replacement parts... can you tell it has been my less than favorite task.

I have a '68'vert, slightly different, but as much of a pain..
The 2-piece covers are very stiff and require several hands and small prybars.
I started in the center of the windshield and worked my way out to the corners.
(this is one of those tasks that you're sure you're going to bend the chrome all to heck)
I was lucked and had my windshield out during this install.
(I was able to remove the 2 windshield clips that got caught under the top covers.)
To mount my center rear-view mirror, I had to slide the small tri-angle mounting plate, under the top covers I just installed.
Take a small screw driver to pry this down.
I bought new shiny chrome mirror and mounting hardware and had no visable overlap.
The plastic cover snapped into place and all my screw holes lined up perfectly.
If you can post some pictures, we may be able to offer suggestions, but I was very happy with the fit.

Are they making the '68 dull/brushed finish header chrome any more robust now? The repros of a few years ago would not hold up to wear.
