I have a 69 Camaro that has a turbo 350 and a .060 over 10.1 427 in it right now that I am going to change over to a transbrake car. Index racing down here in Texas is becoming very big in this area and the payouts are much better than a typical bracket race. The car runs 10.90s to 11.00s in the summer so it puts me at the 7.0 1/8 mile index class. I normally add weight during the winter to slow the car down to race these index races but I am having trouble cutting lights due to the pro tree. Most the guys all have transbrakes and can cut lights in the .030 to .060 range while foot braking my car I can only cut lights in the .100 to 120 range. They do not allow deep staging so the only option that I see is to join the transbrake crowd. The car is 3470 with driver what type transmission would you suggest.

Seems heavy to me so I thought that a 3 speed would be needed but people that I have spoke with are saying that a power glide would work well also. Let me know your thoughts or experances with differant combinations regarding this. I also have another motor that I may put in the car that would give me around 150 more Hp, but the car is traction limited at times in the heat down here.

Glide advantages- Lighter weight, less HP to operate, very consistent- only one gear!
TH400 advantages- Better off the line, better reliability. In our case, lower ET.

Personally, if the car weighed 2500-3000 lbs with you in it, the 'glide is awesome. For a heavier car, especially with a brake, the Turbo 400 is the best way to go IMHO.The lower gear really helps off the line with a heavier car. It also depends.... if you do not mind changing a tranny every 100 runs versus running all season (maybe 2-3) on the same Turbo 400.

In our 2450 lb Vega with mild BBC,the glide held up for 3 seasons and did not whimper at all- we just rebuilt it because we thought it'd be a good idea to freshen it up. We were only pushing about 700 hp,and did not use a brake though.

We run a 3000# Nova with a 355 on alky with a GLide and 5.38 gear. That glide has been in there about 8 seasons. Never missed a beat. We don't use the transbrake now but did years back when we delay box raced. THe car runs 6.70 in the 1/8. We did have a 400 in our old Chevelle years ago and it worked well too. It worked well as a footbrake trans but we did not have good luck with it as a transbrake trans. We broke it a few times then went Glide and never looked back.
