View Full Version : Back From Blasting
Hatya Nov 6th, 07, 08:48 PM Well i got my car back from Imperial Blasting today, and they did a nice job in my opinion. Cost was $700, for the body, both doors, and trunk lid. Seemed reasonable to me.
I found what i expected  whoever replaced the quarter lap welded them in over the edge of the old quarters. And where the quarters meet the rear valance is NASTY.
Nowthe fun begins, I can actually start replacing parts, disassembly is over !!!
So the list is:
2 full rockers, full floor, rear valance, front dash, both outer cowls, and new trunk floor, o ya, 1 new door.
The frame seems extremely solid, the nasties u see on the frame or old floor i need to grind off.
Please look at these quarters and advise. Can they be removed and reinstalled correctly? Or are they that bad the way they are.
Enjoy the pics
BelAirBob Nov 6th, 07, 08:57 PM I think that the quarters need replacement as well. If you take the car down as far as you will need to in order to fix the rest, the quarters might as well be fixed the right way. On a convert, there is less work to installing quarters- no sail panel of back window areas to be welded. Replace them and know what you have under the paint.
Hatya Nov 6th, 07, 09:00 PM Hey BOB !! this is all your fault btw, i bought your front disc brake kit, started taking it apart and this is where i stopped LOL.
Can i reuse these quarters? I wonder how much work it would be to grind these welds out on them. My wife would love me a bit more if i can save them,
parkbrau Nov 6th, 07, 11:57 PM Holy crap!! is that what happens when you do a brake conversion? Good luck... you have some work ahead of you. Way to go Bob.
400bird Nov 7th, 07, 12:00 AM where do you think brakes install? haha

Did you build the stands the car is on yourself? I need to build on for my 67 once I get out of Iraq.

AutoRodTechnologies Nov 7th, 07, 06:41 AM I'd suggest new quarters, your building to nice of a car to skimp out there, I really don't like the way the put the quarters on,, and they would take to much work to use them.. I'd order in some full quarters that way you don't have to have a seam down the middle of the panel.. Also if your doing a full trunk floor, you will have to have the quarters removed also..

wagonman Nov 7th, 07, 08:18 PM the first thing you do is turn the car round and round....tap on the frame with a dead blow hammer to shake out the media and then blowing out all the media.....

Im going to be removing a few panels like quarters, rockers and so on, so i'll get alot of it then, but than ks i never thought of a deadblow to shake it loose. I plan on alot of vacuuming also.
