Hey guys, I'm looking or ideas for the underside of the Harwood cowl hood on my '67. The finished gel-coated areas around the perimiter are fine, but I'm not real excited about the center part. The underside is painted the same as the exterior and the gel-coated parts are great, but I wanna do something about the rough looking glass in the middle. I had some of that foil covered insulation on there for a while, decided it looked like crap.
I was thinking truck bed coating, but not sure about adhesion and resistance to the heat under there. I talked to a couple of coating reps. at an event and they were basically clueless. So, any suggestions? I do not want padding, insulation, or god forbid-mirrors! Just something to kind of cover up the rough looking fiberglass surface. Thanks.

what color is the car?
how about painted or powder coated sheetmetal attached to the underside of the hood like a mirror would be
My car is a dark blue, and I think if i did that a flat or satin black it would look nice
just an idea

Mine has undercoating in the holes and painted the same as the car in all other areas. Here is a pic, it looks really good in person, a lot better than this pic! . http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k264/pnewell44/000_1495.jpg

How 'bout having a metal shop make you up a mirror polished sheet of stainless steel to cover the whole area?

Chuck, I have the same hood and the same problem. I was thinking of fiberglassing (probably with some mesh/cloth) and gelcoating the center part so that the whole underside was finished fiberglass. I know this will add some weight but I wouldn't think it would be that much. Too bad Harwood only makes the 4" cowl with the totally finished underside.

I thought about that, but too much work! I am looking for the right thing to just paint on. I thought about trunk spatter paint, but that might look cheesy. Maybe I just leave it alone. Nobody has ever commented negatively about it. Guess they are too busy looking at my shiny engine!
