This is an odd question but what do you guys think about putting an air compressor in a sheltered outdoor location. I have a pad outside my small 2 car garage and for space and sound reasons considering it but can't find any info on pros or cons of doing it. Electrical is close so a non issue

Depends on your climate. Running it at low temps will increase load at start up with oil thickening and cause it to kick out circuit breaker. high temps will cause premature wear and oil blow by. Best to check compressor manufacture for their specified operating range.

I ran one for many years in an unheated shed without any issues, along with many of my friends. Not having to listen to the compressor is a big plus

Mine has been outside my garage for a few years and it has worked out great. It don't get nearly as cold here as where you are so that should be a consideration.
I have a 60 gallon upright so there is a considerable space savings as well as the noise reduction! Especially since I've insulated the walls, I can hardly hear it anymore unless there's no other noise going on.

If you run enough pipe inside so the air can get to a normal temperature, I don't think it would be a problem. I'm guessing on this one.

Condensation is the worst enemy. Condensation on the outside, the side you see, is also inside. Not only the tank, but the crankcase.
As others have said, more load at start-up due to thicker oil. More rust in the tank due to condensation. Quieter atmosphere at working/service area. More available air volume if another tank is installed inside work area.
Added benefit to reduce condensation of the compressed air, pull intake air from an inside room, preferably an air conditioned room, or at least, from the South/East wall.
