I have the same question. Currently considering either afr 195's or brodix IK200's.

Why are the eliminators so hot?
Is it all just hype?

The 197cc part # 23-500-65 heads also ROCK.
Here is a huge benefit to the Canfields.
They FIT, also Aftermarket parts (intakes, headers, etc) FIT.
They can take 1.54" dia springs, out of the box.
They have an installed height on the springs of 1.900" out of the box and using stock length valves.
The ports are aligned properly and are dingleberry free.
Tons of meat if you want them ported, Thick decks for great sealing and durability.

You will probably get a lot of people that will knock the AFRs because they get tired of hearing so many people saying how great they are. All I can say is that I have had mine going on 8 years so I sort got them before it became the "in" thing to do. The AFR heads have been the best investment I have ever made. Some will say advertised flow numbers don't mean anything, but what else does the weekend waarior have to go by? I don't have a bench in my garage...

AFR has about the highest advertised flow numbers and I honestly believe they come closer to actuals than any of the other companies.

If I were to buy today, the only other head I would even consider would be the new Darts that were developed using wet flow technology or the Canfields. However, you absoltuely can't go wrong with the AFRs.

I after speaking to some friends in the buisness I called AFR. What they clued me in on is that the new 195's (the eliminators) our perform the previous model 210's.
So basically if your buying new make sure you dont get the older 195's unless its at a discount

I thought about purchasing the edelbrock E-Tec 200 CC runner heads since I can get a discount on them where I work. However, they have have been on back order for a while now, and I have been considering other options. AFR 195 CC Eliminators seem to outshine the rest. I am a member at LS1tech.com since I have a 99 Camaro SS and AFR is a sponsor on that forum. I have talked with Tony Mamo, one of AFR's top guys, about these heads and my particular engine combo, and he said that I should be in shock after the first time I carry the car out. Everyone that I know that has the heads say they are amazing. I am going to go with these, and when I have some seat time I'll share my results.

Here are the flow numbers between the two heads

We have a set of 195 Eliminators on a 406 and have been impressed by them. They really are not that expensive when comparing to other choices.

What do you guys mean by the 195 eliminators are new? Were they just updated? I just bought the 195's 2 months back and am wondering if I have the eliminators or not. As I know the head design was updated awhile back.

thedugan, do your heads look like this? A guy on our local muscle car board has the 195 AFR Eliminators on his 408 thats in his Chevelle. Part #1034. They are the straight plug heads. He snapped this picture of his setup before he put the motor in his car.

I have a question about headers for the AFR eliminator heads. I got a great deal on a new set of 1 5/8" hooker super comp headers, part number 2130HKR, at super chevy, and I would like to use these. My concern is do I need to use the angle plug version of the head or the straight plug version of the head for best clearance with these? I searched hooker's website, but they mention nothing about these headers not working on a particular set of heads. I have a 350 crate motor in my car right now with a cheap set of headers that was on the car when I got it, and clearance is terrible. The tubes are dented for clearance, and one of the boots is like 1/16" away from the header on the passenger side, and the headers on the drivers side are laying on top of the steering box. I want the proper plug setup so that plug changes will be less time consuming/knuck busting.:clonk:

angle plug or straight plug? what headers are you running?

I run Hooker 2131 which is the 1 3/4" version. They clear good around my straight plug heads but I had to massage them with a hammer around the pitman arm. I use a solid motor mount on that side which may have raised the headers a bit more causing the interference.

BTW, I have never seen a set of headers that did need a little tweaking....

I run a set of the older 195's, #1038 if it means anything. The heads were in the head shop getting a seat touch up and they were laid next to a set of Eddy heads, first off I noticed that the porting was not cnc on the Eddy heads but over all appearance was the same. My angle plug heads are mated up to a set of Thorleys tri y headers, no clearance issue or hammer shaping. They do begin with an 1 5/8 port but quickly go to 1 3/4 then 2 1/2" . I would say that going any larger than a 383, one should consider a larger port head and header. Really depends on application. Since I got this new set up with one of UDharolds billet cams, this motor is a differant animal.
