What is correct for the underside/floor pans/trunk pan of a 69 RS Z/28?

1. Gray primer with body color overspray/some black overspray that would go under the door sill? (RS only)

2. Black paint

3. Or ?

Thanks for your help.
:beers:

Black floor spray with body color overspray on the edges of the floor pans (top and bottom), as well as in the rear wheelhouse and framerails.

Guess it depended on the day of the week. :) Friday cars probably got it. Mine has it. Painters must have been spray-happy. Once we removed the rear wheelhouse undercoating, there is Dusk Blue paint everywhere on the wheelhouse and rail. Its the original lacquer paint.

Would 67 be the same as 69?

I think the primer color depended on the finish color. Mine is primered red. My sons' is primered black. My finish is orange, his used to be black.

Good point. The car featured in the current Muscle Car Review is Lemans Blue and has a gray primer floor pan with body color overspray.

Bel Air Bob is the car in Muscle Car Review have correctly restored floor pans?

Hmm... Have not seen the issue. What do the pics show? Mine had the gray-black primer underneath the paint. Car is Dusk Blue.

Some had overspray and some did not.

Some had a lot some had less. I don't think any got masked off. If a black rocker car got a lot of black overspray on top of the body color overspray it would appear to not have body color overspray. All cars I have looked at that were original seemed to have a lot of body color on the bottom

Hey Keith!

So body color goes on first then the black rally sport lower body paint? So if you looked under the car you would see body color with black overspray if you had a rally sport car?

Thanks

Yes , I have seen some original paint cars to verify. Style trim black rocker cars have black overspray on top of bodycolor overspray. The rear fenderwells are heavy body color under the undercoating and the undercoating does not cover around the edegs completly and you see body color. The frame rails have body color on them and above the gas tank has also.
I have seen on the three angles of the rocker where the lowest angle will not be completly black. So you will see both body color and some black overspray. Of course this varied from car to car.
As far as black or grey primer I have seen both but on my z10 it appeared to be black on top of grey. And then a lot of white. Of corse no black rockers on z10s. I paint the bottom black satin and then overspray it with body color and the the black rocker if applicable.

I painted my underbody black, and then had overspray painted into the rear wheel wells, on the frame rails and a little on the edges of the underbody along the rockers.

I thought I did it wrong, as I thought there should be gray or red primer on the underbody. BTW my Yenko Tribute should not and does not have black rockers.
