I am going for a modern look with the 69 that am restoring. I have patched the marker light holes shut and am patching all of the badge holes. I am also looking to get rid of some of the chrome such as the ones around the windshield and back window. I have seen 69's with this done, but I couldn't tell what was there in its place. Does anyone know what has been used to fill this area? Is there some sort of modern gasket for the 69 windshield and back window? I guess I thought about just painting the chrome the same color as the car.

Check over on pro-touring.com. There's a couple of guys who have flush mounted their glass. It is a big job if I remember right.

Alot of the guys are painting the stainless molding the body color, which gives a nice look. Otherwise people are using Bondo, not good, or metal fabrication.

It is a huge job. My last 69' had flush glass. You basically need to fabricate a platform for the glass to rest on. We used 1/2 wide inch steel flat bar. Once this is welded in, and the glass mounted, then you need to get some modern universal-type windshield molding from a glass shop. The car below had the flush glass, filled seams, shaved emblems, shaved door handles, and shaved drip rails,as well as a clamshell reverse opening hood. Lots of work involved in all of this for sure, but it does clean up the lines a bit.

Think about taking the wheel well chrome out as well. Man does that make a nice paint job on a lowered car stand out! Other ways to modernize include suspension, brakes, drivetrain (love the lsx/t56 combos) and wheels. The good thing is is there is so much to do! Good luck bro and welcome to the site.

And therein is the reason Chip Foose said on Hot Rod TV that "the 69 Camaro is the most desired car in the world". Make it any way you want.
