View Full Version : fender door gap
67-CAM-RIDER Nov 10th, 07, 02:50 PM i have installed new door and fenders. When I mounted the door, the front door edge was even with the edge of the rocker leaving the correct gap at the rear of the door. Now I have a 3/16 gap between the rocker and the fender. look at the pic and let me know what you think about the gap. If it is wrong can you let me know how you would fix it. i was thinking the only way would be to grinde the back edge down, but it would have to be about 3/16.
thanks
Stan

It actually looks pretty good from here. If anything, the gap at the front is slightly greater, meaning you might be able to slide the fenders rearward by just a small amount to make it a bit tighter. Overall, looks good though as it is.
67-CAM-RIDER Nov 10th, 07, 03:09 PM I was wonder because i did not have that big a gap on the fenders i took off.
i changed both doors from the orginal to re-pop, i should have reskinned the orginials since they were in good shape. the passenger door went in and fit well, the drivers side was another story.
thanks

what is the normal gap between the rocker and front fender?
JohnZ Nov 10th, 07, 04:24 PM what is the normal gap between the rocker and front fender?
3/32" +/- 1/16".
67pat Nov 10th, 07, 06:16 PM You got subframe connectors on the car?...that did more to stabilze the gap and line-up in this area on my car than anything else I have done, plus adding new hinges and latches didnt hurt either.
67-CAM-RIDER Nov 11th, 07, 06:36 AM i dont have sub frame connectors yet (plan to), i just rebuilt the drivers hinge, passengers were fine.
thanks

JimM Nov 11th, 07, 08:06 AM Your pics look correct. The front of the door and the front of the rocker should line up.
The door to fender and rocker to fender gap will be the same.
Yours could be a lil tighter I think, hard to tell from the pics.
If you are gonna put SFC's on, do it before you final align the fenders and doors.
When I welded mine on, I tried real hard to do it "in place." I supported the car under the suspension, and tried to load it as it would be on the ground. I still had to do a lil pushing to get the SFC's up to the floor, and now the back of my doors are 1/8" to 3/16" higher than they used to be. It doesn't really show (they were low before) but I had to readjust both door strikers.
67pat Nov 11th, 07, 01:46 PM I agree with Jim,except I had the reverse side of what he's saying...my car was at the body shop and the guy who was lining everything up,had a small frame issue, but he was working on lining the doors up and showed me how the car had sagged over time...ordered SFC that day and put them on the day they got here.Really was the best way...having them on before the final adjustments.
67-CAM-RIDER Nov 11th, 07, 03:04 PM Thanks for the info, i just bit the bullet and ordered a set of Hotchkis sub frame connectors
thanks again
