I ran across a dec. 68 date code ( 8M12) 61A 843 alternator. Unmolested. I know these are some of the more desired alternators. Just wanted to know a value before I try to buy it. Kevin

It's for an airconditioned car. Some may want it to be correct but not near as valuable as the 480s , 499s, . Maybe alittle more than previous estimate to the right person.

He is talking alternators here. Not distributors. Were there 480 and 490 alternators?

814's and 837's are the high dollar alternators.

Thanks guys, I looked the application in my CBTN and I agree, A/C cars, so not so valuable. Kevin

834 is probably the most common alternator. Used on virtually everything except A/C cars and HP cars. I'd guess $20 tops. You could probably check your local parts stores and find a rebuilt one with that number for $35-40.

I'm not having a brain fart, but I found the correct cam (732 I think) for my 499 distributor by checking local stock at auto parts stores. O'Reilys ordered 3 for me, knowing what I was trying to do, and one had the correct cam.

Believe it or not, 837s, 480s and 499s are still being discovered that way. I used to check everytime I was in the store for any reason.

843's are good one's to use if you do not care about numbers. More amperage is never a bad thing! I wish the 837's were based off of the 843's but they were technically an 834 with a deep groove pulley.
