The hockey stripes on my father-in-laws 69 that he bought last year were recently damaged when isntalling a new set of cams (luckily no paint damage). So they need to come off and be replaced. How hard are they to isntall? Do I need to take them to a pro, or is this something we should be able to tackle on our own????

The fender portion of those stripes are painted on, and the door portion are decals.
:beers:

I am thinking he is referencing to 'cams' as part of the door hinge? maybe? Maybe not.....

First, welcome to Team Camaro!
We don't mean to be hard on the new guys, sometimes it just happens. :)
What John is referring to is that, on a car with original D90 "hockey stick" stripes, only the door portion of the stripe is a sticker. The fender stripes are painted, and therefore couldn't be removed and new ones installed.
If your FIL's stripes are all vinyl stickers, they are an aftermarket kit. We have a few members here that have done the 67-68 style D91 "bumblebee" in the vinyl stickers; I'll try a search and see if I can find any useful tips.
Here are a couple of places that sell the sticker stripe kits. They might be able to give tips, or steer you to the manufacturer for advice. It shouldn't be a big deal at all as loong as you have a clean, dry, warm place to work.
