This build sheet on the top of the tank really adds to the value of the car.
It looks like if it is removed from it's resting place, it will be ruined.
How would you guys save it?

lay a sheet of laminating (sp) paper over it, press down firmly and try to get under it with a spatula or something. then laminate the back. its pretty far gone.

As bad as that is I would take it over having none. Nice find. If you can not find laminating paper that large clear contact paper from a hardware store would work also.

I should clarify, this is not my car.
It is for sale near me on Ebay and the seller shows these pictures of the build sheet, but none of it removed.
Seller states it was removed and is still legible.
It looks like attempting to remove it would destroy it.
I hope to find mine when I pull the tank, but doubt it is still there.

If it were mine, I'd seal it up without even removing it from the tank (leaving a hole for the tank to breathe)! Charlie

I'm with maniac, why not cut out the tank, and then laminate over the top. Neat conversation piece. Buy a repop tank.

If u dampen it and keep slightly damp for a while, then put laminating or clear contact paper over, it will lift much easier

I would never laminate it. How's that laminate material going to hold up 40 years from now...it'll probably be brittle and opaque yellow. I'd pick it up with tweezers or something and sandwich it between two pieces of stiff paper, like posterboard and get it to a document expert at a museum...they'd tell you how to keep it or could direct you to a document restorer.

I would opt for a professional. If that isn't possible use plastic gloves to keep the body oils off and a flat razor blade, no laminate. Store in a folder that is made specifically for old documents.

The partial VIN is on the top left of these build sheets and with the F60X15 that shows in the picture that is a valuable piece of paper.

I have sandwitched a build sheet between two pieces of glass and then taped the edges to keep air out.

If still on the tank you could tape clear plastic over it and save the tank as is. Run a new tank in the car.

Do you know where the car was built & what year is it. I would go the take pics & notes way, also leave it on tank cut piece out, put in new tank. Good luck, Im still looking for mine, thats why I asked who (plant) put sheets on tanks, mine came from norwood.

I was thinking first generation with the F60X15 comment, not sure about tire sizes in 1970.

Beautiful car!!

Egore,

Van Nuys put the chassis build sheet on top of the gas tank in '69 and apparently '70, not sure about other years.

Anyone ever find a buildsheet in the interior of their Norwood built car?

It's even more valuable with the Z22 Ralley Sport and Z28 Special Engine options visible just below the tire size in the close up!

Auction did not meet reserve at 42,699, so it looks like the build sheet adds quite a bit of value to a Van Nuys car.

Clill's suggestion of sandwiching between 2 pieces of glass is a good one, I will try that one if I ever find my build sheet (have'nt dropped the tank yet)

Just curious, when did they put F-60-15 tires on a first gen.?

I have one I've gone through almost completly exept tank, nothing. Heard of a few cars but I dont know where they found it. Why have we only found a couple out of all of the camaros we have had before anyone had chance to throw sheets exept for plant?

save the tank as is. Run a new tank in the car.

I like Chuck's idea. As poor of shape as the sheet is in, you're likely to destroy it trying to remove/preserve it.

I think the original tank with the sheet, even out of the car, is worth the price of installing another tank in it and is certainly worth the risk of further destroying the sheet.

I have had my entire car apart with the exception of the sheet covers. I am redoing them this winter.

I agree. I'd give my left.....um, well, left arm anyway, to have that much of a build sheet for mine.

I just pulled the tank on my 69 RS and I think I found the build sheet.
Does the sheet have perforated holes?
It is in bad shape & I would also like to try to open it up and read it.
I dont want to cut the tank and Im not fond of pressing contact paper on it.
What about steaming it to get it off and opening it up from its crumbled state?
then I would put it in somthing to preseve it.
