about this balancer: PowerForce+ SFI Series by Professional Products?
I have one on my 383 and a guy told me that they will come apart. I haven't had any problems with it yet and was just wondering if anyone has or have heard anything bad about them. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SFI-Harmonic-Balancer-Damper-Chevy-sb-sbc-383-400-8_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33616QQihZ008QQitemZ1 80177675682QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

these are the same guys who stole Edelbrocks manifold designs and have them made in China, so pretty much all their stuff is low quality. Will it explode, hard to say. They won't get any of my money.

I saw a photo on another board of one that shelled on a drag boat....it wasn't pretty.....

....but I had a guy bring one into me to put on his 8-71 blown BB. I installed it despite my reservations. It has been in service for a couple of years now with no problems.

Mike at Wolfplace (Team www.Chevelles.com) has a few pics of one that let go... do a search over there and you'll see.

They said it came apart around 7500rpm! It's supposed to be good up to 10,000rpm, SFI approved too. Now I'm worried.
Well one way to look at it is if it comes apart and tears up my 383, that will give me a reason to swap to big block

pick any brand of aftermarket performance part, and you will be able to find someone that has had one fail catastrophically, and thus they are the worst thing ever made.
in the wold of balancers, i've heard bad things about everything from stock 40 year old oem parts to Fluidampers to Ati's to Rattlers to the professional products parts.
in the end, it comes down to makign a choice based on what you can learn.
