: window chrome clips ?

I have 2 sets of NEW clips for the window chrome, a large green clip and a small red clip.
I also have a NPD catalog and from the pics it looks like I have the right clips, green - rear,
red - front.
Now the problem is I have a few "original" clips off the car, but dont remember if theyre for
the front or rear. They look very similar to the new large green clips, so I'm assuming
these "original" clips are from the back window. But these original clips have a small "bump"
that hooks nicely to the rear window chrome, but the new large green clip dont have this bump,
nor do they have anything that protrudes enough to hook on to the window chrome  . So I'm
guessing I have the wrong rear window clips. I guess I need to find rear clips which are identical
to my original ones - right?
As for the front red clips I dont really see how these hook on to the window chrome either  ,
and dont remember removing anything like these small red clips from the front window.
I think all the clips on my car were the same "large original" front and back.
The "original" clips seam to hook on to both the front and rear window chrome, should I
just get a bunch of these for both fr. and back window?
So what clips do I need for the front? are the small red ones correct? and I'm just too stupid
to see it? graemlins/clonk.gif
Sorry for this being so long/confusing.

I should just stick with wrenchin under the hood. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Thanks guys

HI,
Im not sure what clips you have for the front windshield but they should'nt be small. They should be bigger than your rear window's clips. As for the rear they should be no larger than a inch or so with hole in the center for the trim stud. Did that make any sense? I dont know what you ahve but they may be wrong. I just removed my front and back windows and purchesed new f/b clips so I got old stock and repos in my hand right now.

The small (red) ones are about an 1" long, and have the hole is in the center like you said.
The large (green) ones are 1 3/8" long.

Sounds like NPD may have them listed "backwards",
since you have both old and new ones, could you give my any part #s, or tell me where you got them, if you ordered them?
Also are your new large clips identical to your originals or are they just similar? what colors? If anyone has a NPD catalog they can see the new red/green clips that I have.
My "original" clips are 1 3/8" also (real similar to the new large/green clips, but not same) and seam to hook onto both front and rear well. new clips dont wana hook to any chrome.
Thanks again

Hey,
There pretty much Identical. All my clips are black front/back. I made a mistake earlier The large clips I was refering to are just for the front lower. You couldnt miss these.
I ordered mine from Jimys Bow Tie Supply. Hes a small restore shop great service and tech vs. The big "Industry" boys where theres a good chance your operator dont even own a chevy very much a camaro. heresa link to some pics you may have to browes around but theres pics of what we're talking about on this site.

Thanks I checked them out, that pic shows the large green clips that I have, that NPD shows for the back window graemlins/clonk.gif
I'd like to hear more input from you guys.
I'm gonna take my window chrome, new and old clips to the local "camaro" place here in Houston and maybe I can get the right stuff.

A year or so, I tried to get a definitive answer to which clips go where. It seems that each resto house has their own answer. I have several types of clips that appear identical, except for color, until you really study them. The difference is usually in the size of the little ear that actually holds the chrome.
I ended up deciding on using the silver "D" shaped ones for the whole rear, red rectangular ones for the A Pillar, and either silver or green D clips (can't remember, for sure) for the top of the windshield. The bottom of the windshield is totally different, and can't be confused.

The fact that different resto houses recommend different clips makes me suspect that they will all "work"

I hope I can figure this out, but it does seam like everyone has a diff. story on the clips.
I may just try to find clips that are identical to the original one I got off the car, with that little "ear" that holds the chrome on - thats the whole prob, the new clips dont seam to have a good "ear" on them that hooks on the chrome right.
My original clip seams to work on the front and back chrome.
Thanks guys

I used J & T AUTOMOTIVE INC. clips #825 red {GM part #8717859} for both the front and back mouldings on my car. I picked them up at a local paint supply store. For my wifes car I used CARQUEST part #8084280 clips { silver }for both window mouldings. They both worked and the mouldings set the same height.

You need to find the same type clips that have the ears. I bought the same clips and they did not hold the chrome very good. I went to a glass supply house that sold clips and matched them. Then the chrome fit good.

Thanks for the help guys, I think I know what I need - like Prostreet said, "clips with the ears", thats what my original clips have. I'll have to look around Houston, I'm sure I can find some.
Thanks again graemlins/waving.gif
