: RS/SS emblems

I have a '68 which was advertised as an RS/SS.
From info I have picked up here at the forums and from various books/magazines it appears to be a genuine RS and could be a real SS too. Without the build sheet though I can't be 100% sure. My question however is regarding the fender emblems for a car equipped with both RS and SS packages.
My car is still in primer and the emblems are off the car. The fenders are drilled with holes for only two emblems. The rear fender holes are a horizontal row of four holes - consistent i think with the "rally sport" emblem. The front fender holes are a pair of slightly larger holes. I was assuming that these would be for the "350" engine emblem but the "350" emblems I have do not have the same arrangement of pins to fit in these holes. The emblems look to be correct 1968 designs. I also have a set of 1968 "SS" fender emblems which do fit these holes in the front of the fender. However I have never seen a Camaro with this combination of fender emblems i.e "rally sport" at the rear, "SS" at the front and no engine sized emblem..
Is there a correct combination or does the Chevy reputation for "anything goes" on the assembly line come into play again? Are the fenders possibly from a '67 with emblem holes correct for that year but not for '68?
I'm from England and have only been here for 6 months. After wanting one since I was a kid this is my first muscle car and I'm still learning the ropes so i'm hoping that you guys with all the years of experience might be able to clear things up a little for me.
Thanks

The SS designation had preference over the RS designation. Therefore, if your car is an SS/RS, it would have SS emblems only. An SS/RS did not come with both sets of emblems.

OK. So if it IS an SS would the "ss" emblems be fitted at the front of the fender or underneath the "Camaro" emblem at the rear of the fender? The holes at the fender rear are not correct for the '68 "Camaro" emblems I have and there is no second, lower set of holes, which is why I thought the line of four holes there might have been for the "rally sport" emblem. Is it possible they might be 67 fenders with the rear holes for the 67 plain style "camaro" emblem rather than the 68 script style lettering and the two front holes for the "SS" emblem? If so, what about the engine size emblem?
Like I said before there is only one straight line set of holes at the fender rear so the "Camaro" emblems I have certainly don't fit there and the "350" badges don't fit at the front.
I'm tempted to just seal the lot of'em up and go for the smooth look. =)

withnail,

I'm not sure about the badging differences between 68 & 69 & all of my resources focus on the 69. Badging for a 69 is as follows: the "SS" emblem would go underneath the "Camaro" emblem at the rear of the fender. The badge for the engine would be in the front of the fender, near the turn signal indicator, & as previosly mentioned, there would be no "rally-sport" emblems.

I hope this helps; maybe someone with more knowledge about '68s can tell if this is correct for both years.

As far as your comment about going for the "smooth" look, I left all of the "Camaro" & "SS" emblems off of my car after it was repainted & I am very pleased with the look. I only have the "SS" emblem in the front grill.

Hope this will be helpful!

Yes, thanks. i was thinking i'll just keep the "350" badges at the front and leave the rest off.
I presume you welded the unwanted holes shut did you?

Check out this web site that I found a long time ago. It has pictures of what you are looking for. SS or RS or SS/RS or Z28 or Z28/RS. Lots of colors too. All years. I have linked just the 68s that he has but 69 and 67 are available too. http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/3652/68pics.html#ext
