A friend is building a .060 over 454 and bought the Speed Pro KH426CP pistons for it. The pistons did not come with suggestions for ring gap. We have concerns regarding the problems associated with the ring gaps being too close and the catastrophic failures associated.

I thought that the reccomendations were tighter for "street" and "racing" and were something like .04 per inch of bore for street and .06 per inch for race, but it's been almost 12 years since my dad built a motor with hyperteutectics. I advised that we should use the race gap since he will occasionally flog on it.

What are the recommended gaps, please. Any suggestions or advice is always welcome.

Thanks guys.

According to the KB website, to determine end gap on a street driven N/A motor with hypereutectics multiply the bore size by .0065. Here is the link http://kb-silvolite.com/downloads/KB-Hyper-Automotive.pdf

Brave,
The only pistons that I know of that require a larger top ring gap are the Keith Black ones. This has something to do with thier design that holds a lot more heat in the top of the piston.

The Speed Pro pistons DO NOT require any larger gap than normal. You should use the recommended end gaps for the piston rings that you have purchased.

That is correct. I've only used the KB's and thought they would be the same. Here is the link to Speed Pro. http://www.federal-mogul.com/en/AftermarketSolutions/NorthAmerica/EngineSolutions/Products/Pistons/Speed-ProPistons/Hypereutectic/
