I have a 99 Camaro and the security light for the engine keeps me from starting my car I was told about a chip you can remove does anyone know where this is:confused:

View Full Version : looking for help marvinmott36 Nov 17th, 07, 02:21 PM I have a 99 Camaro and the security light for the engine keeps me from starting my car I was told about a chip you can remove does anyone know where this is:confused: hereitis67 Nov 17th, 07, 04:54 PM do you got a key with a chip in it. theres a certain resistance to it. of you got 2 keys and it is the same. when you slide the key in ignition it goes into a slot where it picks it up and allows it to start. when they do remote starters for these cars. they put a resister in the wiring so when you hit the remote it will auto start it.but for how and where those wires are im not sure. i never did a remote start on a camaro before. may want to try a place by you that does them and pick there brain on it if there nice they will give you a diagram on your car wiring to do it yourself to bypass it. fatblock Nov 18th, 07, 05:12 PM I have a 99 Camaro and the security light for the engine keeps me from starting my car I was told about a chip you can remove does anyone know where this is:confused: you can measure the resistance of the pellat in your key.if you slide in under the steering column and disconnect the two wire vats connector..you can ohm test the ckt with key in ignition and verify.I would bet you measure OL.The vats wires attached to the ign lock cyl fail over time with repeated starts.The orange wire breaks and the VATS module can not read the pellat resistance.Pull your steering wheel and check for a broken wire coming out of the lock cyl. |
