View Full Version : The motor is done and the 69 project moves on.
cbrookss Nov 19th, 07, 05:46 PM The motor is a small block 400 (409 ci) with aluminum heads and an Offenhauser intake. Two 600 CFM Holleys that have had lots of work done to them. It’s a solid roller with a lunati crank and rods. Motor was not cheap but should hold up. The motor makes 505hp and 515lbs.

cbrookss Nov 19th, 07, 06:12 PM should be fun. Getting the carbs to work/run right was the tough part.
98blackburb Nov 19th, 07, 06:24 PM Where did you get those dog-dish caps??........I love it !!! What cam and compression are you running in that motor ?? Thanks alan
cbrookss Nov 19th, 07, 06:39 PM the cam is a "large" solid full roller. I will look at who made it. The caps came off ebay/epay. $100 plus ship. compression is 9.5.

cbrookss Nov 21st, 07, 06:34 PM Thanks, that was a good buy on the caps,,,,,what size tires front and back?? That is what I want to do to my 69.......love the sleeper look.....thanks for the info......alan
245 in rear and 225 up front. The camaro sits about 3in low in the rear and I needed to make sure it cleared. They look good. Would like to have gone larger but the wheels are from summit and with the offset 4.25 the tire could have hit on the outer lip. Not sure but I did not want to risk it. I plan to put it on the ground soon and will take a shot of how it sits with this set up and Post it. I want to get it out to paint in the next few weeks. i have a guy here in LA that does good work on a car like this for about 4K. jams/under hood/trunk paint and all. Its not "perfect" but its good and I just build hotrods that get driven....hard. I finished my 68 chevelle about 3500 miles ago and it could already use a clutch.

98blackburb Nov 21st, 07, 07:51 PM Nice cars,I'm jealous...............Both have nice clean set-ups, thanks for the info, that'll help me when I go to buy tires soon,I'm still kicking around white letters or not, currently it has blackwalls which contrast good with the Hugger Orange.
cbrookss Nov 22nd, 07, 03:19 PM Black out for sleeper look and white for hot rod. Notice I did the chevell white out but went black with the dog dish caps. Imho
98blackburb Nov 22nd, 07, 05:10 PM Keep me posted on the 69 when it's painted, are you going back white?
cbrookss Nov 23rd, 07, 02:44 PM Im going to paint it butternut yellow. Not my favorite color but its orig to the car and I am told this is very rare for a 69?? It came with the black below the chrome bottom trim so I will have my painter put that back as well. It also had the pin stripes over the fenders so I think I will put them back on. someone put Z stripes on it...they will be gone. They look great but a bit over done imho. I thought about cloning to an SS but also a bit over done....so I am going very plane jane...with 4WD, OD trans and some suspension upgrades.
98blackburb Nov 23rd, 07, 04:35 PM I''ll say it's rare.....Code 40 Butternut Yellow, less than 1% ( .8% ) .I like original too,I wanted to paint my 69 SS Cortez Silver, but went back code 72 B Hugger Orange with Black Vinyl Roof ..Here is the % and colors and years...scroll down a little bit and there it is

cbrookss Nov 23rd, 07, 05:24 PM 72B with black vinyl would be the exact color combo I would paint if i did not care about original. Its so good looking with so much pop. But not in the cards...its plain old butternut for this car. .8% is rare. I like to see that. how many 69 camaros were built? I guess I should have rebuilt the 307 and the pg trans. hahahahahahahah!!!!! i am laughing but at .8%??? well I still have them I guess I will hang on to them. There is no way the front drums were going to stay though.
98blackburb Nov 23rd, 07, 07:07 PM My 1st. 69 was a North Carolina 307, Power Glide,Original Dealer's Invoice,Protecto-Plate,Inspection Slips up to 81 then it was passed down to son who dropped the ball,Azure Turquoise, another rare color...............even though not a Big-Block SS or COPO....to me I should have kept it.......live and learn ...sold it for $8500 in 96.....with a ZZ3 in it with a Built Glide, kept the original motor who buyer bought later.........could have been the 1st. of many in the Barn for me...........
