I'm replacing my turn signal switch and the new switch I have has a grey wire that looks like it goes to a bulb that mounts inside the steering column! Is this for a reverse light indiccator for a column shift car! Mine is a standard column with a floor mount shift! Will it still work correctly?
I also found three springs laying in the bottom of the turn signal column housing. What are they for and where do they go!! Help please, I'm assembeling right now!

I also need to know what type of grease to use on the shaft and bearing? Will white lithium grease be ok or does it need something special?

Camaro steering columns for column shift automatics had a light bulb on the column head to light the PRNDL indicator. There was a hole in the top of the column for the bulb, bulb holder, and the PRNDL parts. There had to be some sort of feed from the dash lights circuit to feed the grey wire and light up the PRNDL indicator. With a floor shift column you don't have any of the PRNDL junk, so just don't hook up the grey wire to the dash lights.

White lithium grease would be acceptable for the column bearings.

This picture from the 1968 Chevrolet Shop Manual shows the four springs in the turn signal switch. Two leaf springs on the left side of the picture and two little torsion coil springs that do the turn cancelling.

The shop manual is very vague as to the Camaro and Nova PRNDL indicator light. It only states:
"On Chevy II and Camaro models equipped with automatic transmission remove column mounted dial indicator housing and lamp assembly (if applicable)."
No mention as to connecting the grey wire. I can only guess that the instrument panel light wire must be passed up the curved connector that holds all of the other turn signal wires. I inspected the wiring diagram in this shop manual and it doesn't show the PRNDL light.
