Hello,
I have a '69 Camaro with a patially crazed Imron paint job and I need to strip it to the bear metal on the crazed areas, but what do I do in the non crazed areas? Any spot that had sun exposure is oxided to the max. Another thing, under the Imron paint there is a white chalky sealer (which allows the hard Imron paint to be chipped off of this soft underlayer fairly easily). Is there a solvent that can remove the sealer without taking the old factory paint off, or should I just sand it and have the new paint applied over the old sealer? Or just sand until I hit the original paint?

Thank you

Some parts are good, some parts are bad, and the sealer is chalky. Take it all down to bare steel. That old paint will come back to haunt you through your new paint job.

Thank you so much for the words of wisdom. I was hoping to avoid a full strip, but I can tell you know this situation well.

Thank you

There are plenty of people here that know the body shop procedures better then me. You'll get so many different opinions but if your going to spend the time and money and want a paint job you will be proud of years later start from scratch IMHO.
