I just started my 67 after it had been sitting for almost 2 years. It actually started right up, only problem being is that gas was spitting out of carb. It has a new holley 80 gph fuel pump and new fuel lines (3/8"). The carb is a 2 bbl for my 327, I'm thinking the fuel pump may be to strong for the carb but that doesn't seem right. My other thought is that the carb may need rebuilding, although I plan on putting a 4 bbl setup on. Can anyone tell me what causes gas to spit out the top. Thanks again guys.

This is what i would try. pull fuse on electric fuel pump. Start car and make sure it will idle and see if runs good. You should be able to run about 20 seconds till emptys bowl. Next put fuse back in and turn key on but do not start. and watch what happens with flash light in carb to see if the float is sticking with fuel pump on.
If runs good with out fuel pump on and fuel comes out after filling bowl with car not running then i would say carb float is sticking and fuel is coming out overflow into carb.

Trash/Gum/Varnished needle seat or stuck float. If the car sat for 2 years, the fuel that was in the bowl evaporated and has left some varnish behind. You may also have introduced some trash into the lines when you replaced the pump and lines which could have the same effect.

take the top off the carb, hose everything in there (and up under the top) with carb cleaner, and put it back together.

It's a mechanical fuel pump and the original 2bbl GM carb. I also installed an in-line fuel filter because I wanted to make sure anything coming out of the tank would not end up in the engine. I will try hosing the carb down with cleaner as that sounds more like what the problem is.
