I am working on bringing a 67 RS/SS vert back to life. I have been working on mechanical stuff first, and plan on stripping and doing body work this winter or the next. The car has a minor bubbling under the paint at the front of the whell wells on the quarters and a rusted area on the bottom of the right outer wheel house. the floor pans and underside are good with a rear passenger floor patch panel put in sometime in the past.

Are there any products that can be used on the under side of the car to protect it and the wheel house to prevent the spread of rusting until I get around to doing the body restoration.

The underside of the car looks pretty good (way better than my 68 back in the eighties), but I live on the coast now so any info on whatI can do to protect the underside until I pull everything off and do the body work would be appreciated.

Also, I was thinking of using a repro wheel house since it really isn't visible. Any body have recommendations on the place to buy the repro wheelhouse get the best fit.

Since the paint bubbling is very isolated on the quarters, what do you think of using quarter patch panels instead of a full quarters. I want to do it right, but I have a hard time justifying buying GM quarters for that little rust. If patches are okay where can I get the highest quality, best fitting ones?

Thanks in advance,

Victor

Victor,
I used patch panels on my coupe, thinking that it's a shame to cut off a quarter that's 95% rust free. I welded and filled by the book, blocked till I was blue in the face ( and then some) and I can see the outline of my panels when looking through the clear coat at certian angles. Some people say they can't see it, but I can. :(

I'm in the process of installing trunk extensions and outer wheelhosue on my pacecar, and full quarters later this year , which I belive is the correct way to do it, especially on this car.

As far as protecting the underside, just keep it out of the surf!! Just kidding, that is a very harsh environment, good luck with keeping any vehicle from rotting.

I'll be down OBX way 19th and 20th, on my way through to TopSail island. I do this every year, last year saw a 69 RS conv't down there with NC tags, not sure if he was local or not. Had a surf board in the back seat , that was pretty cool!
