Hey guys have anyone every heard of a stock oil pan holding 9 qts of oil?
A friend of mind brought a bbc engine which he was told that it was a 92 vette motor
454 everything was with it accept the dip stick and tube.So he had a stick and tube
in a 1974 454 engine that he removed for the car so he used those parts but it took
9 qts of oil i dont think that is right, also it is running hot could to much oil this?
The motor was completely rebuit before he put it in.

Well, since 92 vettes only came with 350cid LT1 motors, I think someone is shoveling your friend a line of... well, you know. 5 qts + filter if it's a 92 vette motor. (but that would be a small block!)

yes..an overfilled oil pan can hold 9 qts.Gotta go out out on a limb here and guess the 454 bbc vette engine is 1972 not 92.:D
Drain the oil and muster up the correct tube and stick to match the application.Establish that first and then post back regarding running hot.

1. Drain your oil - leave old filter on.
2. Add 5 Qts. of your favorite oil.
3. Using a small file.....mark that level on a generic Autozone dipstick.
4. That's your new FULL mark.
5. Change filter....add half a quart....you're good to go!
