View Full Version : mono leaf vs multi leaf andyj68 Nov 26th, 07, 12:29 PM I'm looking for info regarding my 68 camaro, it has mono leafs. i'm switching to a 383 and wondering what the best options is, or the benefits of both are DOUG G Nov 26th, 07, 02:50 PM I ran my monos with slapper bars and they got bent... common problem with short slappers. If you're happy with the stance, keep the monos and get a set of Caltracs. Multis are fine also but I would still get the Caltracs if you plan on racing. pdq67 Nov 27th, 07, 05:08 PM I ran my stock mono's for quite a while w/ my homemade slapper-bars FINE!! Thing is that they have to be long enough to slap right in the bottom middle of the front spring eyes OR they can bend the mono's as well as possibly even kink and break them.. This can NOT happen when they slap where they should!! And I ran coil overload shock springs that I tuned! After a 2.5 to 3 hour Sat afternoon tune of both the snubber gaps and the coil-overs, side-to-side, my car left like a "rabbit outta the chute at a Dog Track!!".. And fwiw, I used 1/2" bolts for snubbers!! Noisy, but they sure worked!!! pdq67 Larger Dave Nov 27th, 07, 05:16 PM In a Hotchkiss style rear end the leaves perform two functions: one, hold up the car (mono or multileafs makes no difference as far as holding up the car); and two, hold the rear end in place as forces work on the live axle. To counter act the forces the factory chose multi-leafs for all high horse power applications, and monoleafs for the four cylinder, six and small V-8s. Might have been for a reason. CalTracs and or some other torque limiter is required for modern big inch high torque motors being put together today. Don't forget to upgrade the brakes as well. As expected....major wheel hop with hard acceleration. Added a set of Competition Engineering Slide-A-links and it runs great now!! I do not use traction bars at all. Car launches like a slingshot with 12 bolt 4:11 posi with M/T street tires. James pdq67 Nov 29th, 07, 04:52 PM Until the suckers come un-glued so good luck!! Or have they finally got that little glitch fixed? pdq67 memcgraw Dec 3rd, 07, 08:59 AM Thanks. Haven't been active on the site for a while. I keep doing upgrades to my 67 and I've currently got my 02 SS up on jack stands doing some work. Latter got me going again on both this site and LS1Tech.com Mark M. |
