View Full Version : pool table(s) martins 68 Nov 27th, 07, 06:32 PM best one for the money? Everett#2390 Nov 27th, 07, 06:49 PM Regulation size, 4 by 8 ft, 3/4" to 1" slate, leather pockets. Let them install, suckers are heavy. 69OlympicGoldSS Nov 27th, 07, 06:51 PM Brunswick. Just like everything else there is more to them than what meets the eye. There are some really cool looking tables out there that are crap. Go to a reputable place and get the low down on construction before you buy. lukeciffer Nov 27th, 07, 07:16 PM i've played on olhausen's before, they seem pretty nice, don't know how much they cost though. they are made in the USA if that mattters to you. i am kinda bias towards them. Mr. Super Sport Nov 27th, 07, 07:20 PM Olhausen is one of the best tables you can buy. My cousin plays pool semi pro and sponsored by Budwiser Beer and he swears by Olhausen. Olhausen is of course the table I bought and I love it. Very heavy duty built. Enjoy the pool. RobSS1113 Nov 27th, 07, 09:12 PM Olhausen ? ? Damn .. dont forget about the little people if you own one of those .... ! Awesome tables. But a Regular Bar type pool table ? 4X8 ? . I've got 2 extra ones... both coin operated for commercial use Both are Valley Tables. 800 bucks a piece if anybody wants one .. :D wiskeesour Nov 27th, 07, 09:30 PM Pool. My only forte'.... I've got 2 extra ones... both coin operated for commercial use Both are Valley Tables. 800 bucks a piece if anybody wants one .. :D Bar tables are 3 1/2 x 7. They can be a good alternative. I shoot every Thursday night, APA 9 ball. I wish I had a table at home!!!! Rhino Nov 28th, 07, 07:34 AM Regardless of the brand of table you buy, look at the number of pieces the slate comes in. Most quality tables will come in 2 pieces, rather than the 3 you'll see others come in. I won't say there are no quality 3 piece tables, although the 2's seem to require less maintenance when it comes to truing the table. wiskeesour Nov 28th, 07, 07:45 AM They do make a 1 piece slate. just dont get the sla-tron, it plays crappy. I can definately tell a difference... 57plymouth Nov 28th, 07, 10:05 AM I have a Brunswick. I bought it out of the local classifieds. I paid to have it moved, and was still at half the cost of a new table. Old Man Nov 28th, 07, 11:27 AM Look at the ads in your local Craigs list. There are always pool tables listed for sale in there and there are some nice ones at half the price of a new one. angelglo Nov 28th, 07, 12:17 PM as mark said, look at places like craigslist. i bought my Olhausen dirt cheap and inexcellant condition most people with high end pool tables will treat their pool tables with care. i bought mine for i believe $1,000. i looked it up brand new and it was i think a $5,000. table. and pay to have it moved. its heavy. btw, i realize its made in the usa but it sure does sound german. kz1000ltd Nov 28th, 07, 02:24 PM Craigslist is absolutely the best place to look for good deals, this spring, I picked up a very nice table made by Golden West Billiards, one of the best tables made. It's exactly like the one here, except with red felt: http://www.billiardmfg.com/adtemplate.asp?invky=799342&catky=18552 These are 6-7K tables new, it was listed on Craigslist for 2500, and I got it for 1500! Pool tables are one of those items that you can never sell for what you've paid for it, there are too many of them out there for sale! Anyway, Golden West makes an excellent table, it's almost more like a custom built piece of furniture then a table, it really matched well with our new furniture, that's how I talked my wife into it! I highly recommend it! angelglo Nov 28th, 07, 02:32 PM i remember when you were looking at that. how do you like it so far. and i think you are right. you cant get what you paid for it new so buy used. you only really have to change felts to get it new again. KevinW Nov 28th, 07, 02:43 PM I picked up a middle of the road 3 piece 1" slate brunswick for free, I am redoing the legs and sides in oak. I had all this left over oak boards, but they need planing. I had a 1 piece slate table years ago, it took six guys to carry it and damn near broke our backs doing it. It was nice, but I will deal with the 3 piece (they are heavy enough!). There are felt + wax kits online, so it's a DIY job if you are handy and are precise with levels :) RobSS1113 Nov 28th, 07, 03:13 PM Bar tables are 3 1/2 x 7. They can be a good alternative. I shoot every Thursday night, APA 9 ball. I wish I had a table at home!!!! Excuse me , sorry I did'nt break out the measuring tape while I was drinking .. :D just messing with ya. I have a bar style one pushed in the corner of my garage that is like 3 1/2 x 7 .. and I swear the other ones that are at my parents house for sale are bigger thats why I said 4 ... but for sure they are not the regulation size. dbx1969 Nov 28th, 07, 03:23 PM I had a 1 piece slate table years ago, it took six guys to carry it and damn near broke our backs doing it. I helped my best friend move about 6mths ago. Getting it into the new house was something else. We backed a truck down a steep drive, but then had to carry it around the house, through the back yard, into a ground level screened porch, and into his den. We tried to utilize 2 "medium duty" dolleys and broke both of them. Out of desperation we even tried a heavy duty creeper for just one corner...and killed it too. It was a nearly 1 & 1/2 hr ordeal by itself! And there were only 4 of us. If he moves again, he's paying someone else to do it! kz1000ltd Nov 28th, 07, 06:04 PM i remember when you were looking at that. how do you like it so far. and i think you are right. you cant get what you paid for it new so buy used. you only really have to change felts to get it new again. It's a great table, I've had a few Brunswick "midrange" tables over the years, and this one is 10 times better. It is very solid and the rails are very active, of course I had it recovered when it was moved, this picture was actually taken at the original owners house where I purchased it. Didn't really need new felt, but being 3 a piece slate table, and needing the felt to come off anyway for the move, I thought there was no good reason not to recover it, it was only like another 100 more for the new felt, the felt in this picture was over 10 years old! Funny thing though, once you have one, you never really use it as much as you had planned to, I bet I only play once a month! Oh well, it looks better in our formal dining room than a big, useless fancy table would have, and my wife actually likes it!!!! http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o236/83GS1100E_Tornado/Pooltable1.jpg dbx1969 Nov 28th, 07, 08:51 PM Oh well, it looks better in our formal dining room than a big, useless fancy table would have, and my wife actually likes it!!!! http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o236/83GS1100E_Tornado/Pooltable1.jpg Nah, like Jed would have said, "That is our fancy eatin' table." :beers: martins 68 Nov 28th, 07, 08:54 PM http://bham.craigslist.org/spo/478600601.html is this one worth it? angelglo Nov 28th, 07, 09:44 PM i personally think it is worth it. i bet that 10 years from now, you can still sell it for that much if you keep it in good condition. just make sure its a real Brunswick with solid wood, probably oak, and actual slate instead of some cheap particle board. i loved mine. it was in a game room. i only played every once in a while also but its great at parties. no69x-44 Nov 28th, 07, 10:40 PM i personally think it is worth it. i bet that 10 years from now, you can still sell it for that much if you keep it in good condition. just make sure its a real Brunswick with solid wood, probably oak, and actual slate instead of some cheap particle board. i loved mine. it was in a game room. i only played every once in a while also but its great at parties. I had a 3 piece Brunswick 1" slate regulation size table. You're right that they are a lot of fun at parties. It was always in use whenever we had something going on at my house. As for an eatin' table ... A cover over the table, slap on piece of plywood and there is your eatin' table! I miss my pool table. I sold it when we moved. I got such a great deal on it when I bought it new (the swimming pool place need to get it out of there as the pool season was coming) that I actually made 50 bucks on it when I sold it :) I would buy another Brunswick table in a heart beat. But this again ... I'm no Minnesota Fats either. I'll get another table one day ... when the Camaro is finished taking all my money. kz1000ltd Nov 29th, 07, 05:48 AM http://bham.craigslist.org/spo/478600601.html is this one worth it? I would say go check it out and offer 1500, that would be a very good price........IMHO. Might could get it for less if rent is due...........:p 4b316 Nov 29th, 07, 07:13 AM We have a US Billiard barroom table that we got rebuilt, for $400.Had to take it apart in 3 peices to get it in the house and rolled the slate base across the floor on 4 pipes.Waited to find one along time before we could find one we could afford, had a room built on the house for 2 years before we got the table.wanted to keep the quarter slot in it,figured I could save money that way but didn't martins 68 Nov 29th, 07, 05:53 PM http://bham.craigslist.org/spo/478600601.html is this one worth it? looked at it today about 60 miles from house best price to tear down move and reasemble is 300.00 good price I think 68DaveV Nov 29th, 07, 08:18 PM You won't find a better deal than we got. 8-9 years ago we purchased an American Heritage table. It was about $2500. We gave the store $250 deposit and they were to collect the balance when they delivered the table. I wasn't home when they delivered it and they didn't ask my wife for payment, she assumed I'd paid for it. I figured we'd get a call or invoice in a day or two, well after a couple weeks I decided I better stop in at the store and see what was going on. When I got there the building was empty and no sign as to why. I guess they delivered too many tables without getting paid. When I was researching tables at that time Brunswick did not have a good reputation. I was hearing that their quality was not what it had been when they made a name for themselves. Perhaps they've fixed that, or it was never the case. martins 68 Dec 3rd, 07, 05:28 PM http://bham.craigslist.org/spo/478600601.html is this one worth it? delivered it today:hurray::hurray::beers::beers:early Christmas 68DaveV Dec 3rd, 07, 05:37 PM Martin, Congratulations! Just don't get hooked on the table and neglect the Camaro. :noway: :beers: steve's 69ss Dec 3rd, 07, 08:59 PM I have an old brunswick table.
