Okay, this is not my first vert, so I know where the door alignment wedges go, which piece goes where and in what orientation, what they do, and that they should contact slightly when the doors are closed. So, here's the problem...

The 69 had GM NOS vert quarters installed on it in around 1994, and it has original 69 coupe doors. Today I finally got around to drilling out the dimples and fitting the repro alignment wedge kit. The wedge kit comes with two shims, with hole spacing to fit behind the brass piece on the door side. I have both metal shims behind the brass, and it's not even close to contacting the plastic piece on the jamb. Probably about 1/4 inch apart.

Now, the door gap at the rear is within GM spec, probably on the wide side of spec but within. The quarters were full vert quarters, jamb and all (I know that's implied by NOS vert q's, but I figured I'd state the obvious. The gap looks decent, so I don't think the quarters are tweaked in the jamb area.

So I guess the question is this: Was/is it common to have shims under both sides of the alignment wedge "assembly"? It has been a long time since I had my 68 here, so I forget. Al (BPOS) had linked a thread with some wedge photos, but the linked thread was from before the TC site moved so the link is no longer good.

I'm just trying to figure out if this is just a case of the repro wedge kit just not having enough shims (I can make my own) or if I have something more serious to address. I think a few shims under the plastic side would take care of it, and I can't see that moving the door back the little bit that I could would get them in contact as is.

So maybe someone could help a brother out with some input and/or photos of both the door and quarter side of their alignment wedges? Thanks!

I had the same issue, using goodmark doors. Ended up with perhaps a 1/4" thick shim pack under the brass peice. Luckily, in addition to the shims supplied with the repro wedge kit, I also had my originals so I had enough shims to do it.

I don't recall using any shims under the jamb peice, but will double check when I get home.

Good, I feel better if I am not the only one...

I am going to go through the baggies of OE parts that came with the car because some original wedge stuff is in there (less one brass piece I sent to Al :) ) and look for more shims.

I did my wedge kit a few weeks ago. Pass side was missing both pieces and the driver side just had the brass. After installing I didnt need any shims.

checked mine.
pass side 4 shims on door, zero on jamb
drivers side 3 shims on door, 3 on jamb.
Those jamb shims actually fit there, it all came from D&R.

Both side, I have a shiny spot on the brass, but nothing I can feel.

Just keep an eye on the door gap...the space can change after setting up the shims. Mine did.

The vert has a tendency to twist more so than the coupe I think?
