Has any one used a universal rack and pinion in a 1st gen camaro? I would love to put a rick and pinion in my 69 while it's apart but dont have the money to spend on a kit. I dont mind fabbing my own brackets and such. Just woundering if it would be possible sinces it would be behind the crossmember. I was thinking of this one http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUM%2D770601&N=700+4294925130+4294839070+4294844337+4294891681+ 115&autoview=sku. Would the steering behind the crossmember be a problem with this unit? Thanks for and advice you guys can give me.

It would have to duplicate the mounting position and pivot points of the stock linkage. The inner tie rod ends are in line with the lower A arm pivot points. The rack must pivot it's inner ends in the same location or you will have bumpsteer problems.

I figure that it will probably put the rack too low as well as the angle on the rack's input shaft's u-joints will be darn sharp too.

Guess I'll have to get the subframe back under the car and put the suspension back on and see where it lines up.
