View Full Version : newer car service manuals?
JimM Nov 30th, 07, 08:45 AM I need to get some sort of repair manual for a couple of my newer cars...
Have two immediate problems to deal with:
2003 Malibu V6 leaking coolant out the top "front" of the engine, probably lower intake manifold gasket. need correct R&R procedures.
2004 Silverado, high speed HVAC blower doesn't work, all other speeds do. From what I've found, the blower resister pack and high speed relay are on a single replacement part, but I have no clue where to find it physically in the truck.
Looked at helmsinc, for $135, I'll take my chances getting the mainfold offa that V6 and back on again!
Any recommendations for some decent manuals that don't cost a fortune. My past experiences with Haynes and Chiltons have been less than great.
Everett#2390 Nov 30th, 07, 09:57 AM I find the better money spent, the better the info. I bought a Helms for my '88 when new, $120 then, and has been a godsend.
You might visit a shop with Mitchell Repair CD and ask to print the info out for you.
Resistor block is probably behind the glovebox or above the trans tunnel. Remove the glovebox liner and should be right there.

On your 04, if you're talking about either GM part#89019089 or 89019088 - resistor - you'll most likely need a wire connector that gets fried also. connector part #15862656. Couple screws at bottom of air distribution box gets you access to resistor.
BonzoHansen Nov 30th, 07, 01:48 PM watch ebay. I got full manuals for my 02 Intrigue, 99 Z28 and 93 K1500 for around $50 each.

Someone posted a link to an online repair guide a few days ago. Did you happen to check that out? I can't find the thread now.

BillK Nov 30th, 07, 05:09 PM Jim,
The best deal in my opinion is the Alldata DYI site. YOu can buy a one year subscription to Alldata online for the first vehicle for $25 and I think the second car is $15 or so. You will get the same service information that most professional repair shops get. It is pretty much all factory information including the latest service bulletins etc. I just got it for my 99 Tahoe so I could get the intake manifold R&R procedure.

77wolf10.85 Nov 30th, 07, 08:42 PM You can get a week subscription to Mitchell for 1 car for about 9 bucks.
Mitchell on demand, or ondemand5.
They have enough info to overload you. You literally get lost following links.
And for a free pdf maker go to cutepdf.com.
Any screen on your computer that has print capability can be stored as an electronic pdf with the print function.
JimM Nov 30th, 07, 08:51 PM lmao... then on the way home today, the low beams quit in the wifes trailblazer.
I am surrounded by newer cars that are falling apart.
The vette and the camaro on the other hand are perfect, other than the oil leaks.
And I did buy the Helms manuals for the vette...lol.

JimM Dec 5th, 07, 07:59 PM Thanks lots to those who sent me all the good info!
These newfangled cars sure are complicated! Ya know there are no less than 3 computers (and 2 serial data links) involved in pressing a button on the door and having the seat heat up?
After looking at the Trailblazer headlight wiring... I took it to the dealer today. They replaced a relay, cost me 150 clams. The wife is happy.
I WILL do that intake manifold on the Malibu, no way I'm paying them a grand to change a gasket!
