I have a 68 with a 327, it currently has non-power drum brakes and 2 year old Crager rims with P215 65R15's (maybe 3000 miles on them). I just tore the front apart to put a full new front end kit into it (already purchased from Mattsclassicboweties.com). Since it's apart anyways I decided to buy a power front disc brake conversion kit w/ new replacement hard brakelines as well (not purchased yet). Since I'm going that route I might as well lower the front end while it's apart as well instead of tearing it apart again in a couple of years. After reading a ton of threads it sounds like drop spindles are not the way to go, so I'm thinking drop springs. The car is only driven less than 1000 miles a year (mainly Hot August nights in Reno, parades, other car showes, etc.). I would rather not have to replace the rims and tires as well. Can anyone tell me if the current rim/tire setup would work if I put in some 2" drop springs or is it going to rub? Any other suggestions? I'm just wanting a better front stance but don't want to completely ruin the ride as well.

Kurt, I know that I am not answering what you are asking since my info is for a 69. But I did a complete front suspension rebuild last winter and I replaced my front springs with the Eibach 1" lowering springs. Love the ride and the stance. I am running TTIIs 17" with 245/45 tires up front with no issues.

Thanks tgifford5. I believe the front ends of the 68 and 69 are pretty much the same. Do you have plenty of room for the tires and do you think you could have gone for a 2" drop spring?

Your 215-15's on a 68 won't be a problem lowered.

I presently have plenty of room. I guess I would have to check to see if I could go any lower. But I think there are plenty of members that have done the 2" drop and they would give you a more honest and detailed assessment of their pros and cons. Maybe do a search and see what their comments might be.

Imho, (and I wished I had), I'd use roundy-round racer adjustable cans and then cheap short coil springs.
Do a search for these here b/c somebody's posted a pic. of what these look like.
I want to say Landrum?? Or from SPEEDWAY MOTORS???
You can then pretty-much adjust your height the way you want it later.

you can use the 2" drop springs no problem as long as your backspacing on front rims is good
