Does anyone know a good way to strip and clean up 67 SS hood louvers?
I found a set at a swap meet this past weekend and paid $50.00. They are in good condition, have all the mounting tangs, but they need repainting bad. Would dry stripping or sandblasting work?
Any ideas would be appreciated.

These louvers are chromed and then highlighted with black paint. If the chrome is in bad shape you will need to take them to a chrome shop and they will strip, repair and rechrome them for you. Then you will need to tape the ridges off with a real thin roll of masking tape. 1/8" I think would be the right size and then paint the black on.
But if your louvers have good chrome and the paint is shot then I would take an SOS pad and rub the old paint off prep the chrome with a good cleaner and tape and paint.

Thanks for the reply.
Everything is painted black right now. The chrome doesn't really look too bad. So what you are saying is that the top of the fins should be chrome and the depression or valleys should be black, or am I backwards on this?

racer#00,
you are right. I painted the whole thing black, then used a finger wrapped in an old rag and dipped in some laquer thinner to remove the paint from the top of the fins. Worked good. You may want to try q-tips too.
