I am doing a copying and paste from CRG,is this a mis-print or do I not understand this.............X77 has the same meaning as X44..... or do they "mean" X77 has the same meaning as X33 ??????(misprint?)
http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#XnnCodes

Going back to the X22, X33, X66, and X77 codes, their meanings are now clear. X22 and X33 codes have the same meaning as the related X11 code, but with an added blacked-out tailpan for X22, and with an added Z28 stripe for X33. The X66 code has the same meaning as X55, but with a blacked-out tailpan. The X77 code has the same meaning as X44, but with a Z28 stripe.

Including these meanings in a table covering most of the major trim features for all of the X-codes, and adding in the related Z10 & Z11 codes, we get the following result:

It is correct.

They are explaining the exterior trim packages and how they correlate with the X codes, not the drivetrain/option packages.

It makes a lot more sense when it's in table form, but the software on this forum eliminates spaces, making it hard to follow.

I once sent this to click, kinda went like this

X11 "base" subtract style trim becomes X44
X11 SS350 subtract stlye trim becomes X55
X22 SS396 subtract style trim becomes X66
X33 Z28 subtract style trim becomes X77

Z10 and Z11 dont count :D in this equation

Looks to me that you nailed it. Makes much more sense now. I have been involved in the hobby for the past 20 years and had no idea what was going on. I know that 20yrs is much when a guy like Fred has owned his car for 38yrs . I have at least owned mine for more than half of my life but have sadly  never driven it!!

Is that true, X77 did not include quarter gills?

Yep.

And all SSs had them, even if they were 55 or 66

That's the whole purpose of that table.
It's complicated and there's some things that aren't obvious (like SS and 1/4 gills).

My buddy is the second owner of a numbers X77 that had the gills. I remember because when he replaced the quarters during the resto, he saved the gill sections so he could reproduce the hole locations. Must have been a factory mistake, or else the dealer (Reedman, Langhorne, PA) or original owner installed them. I know my friend didn't.

Just out of curiosity, did the first order of Yenkos which were all X66, get the gills?

I also noticed that X55 got the extra brightwork on the tail lights. What about X66 and X77?
